SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David L. Basala of Rock Island, who
4passed away on October 20, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Basala was born in Matherville to George Jr.
6and Luella Raisbeck Basala on September 23, 1929; he graduated
7from St. Bede Academy in Peru in 1946 and entered the United
8States Air Force on September 1, 1948; he was stationed in
9Alaska during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on
10July 23, 1952; he married Beverly Jean Hartman on September 13,
111952; and
 
12    WHEREAS, David Basala worked as a carpenter for Deane Frye,
13Inc. in Aledo for many years; he retired in 1991 and became a
14caregiver for Beverly; he also served on the Matherville City
15Council for two years and as Mayor for 12 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, David Basala was a member of Matherville F.O.E.
17Aerie 2019 and enjoyed Wednesday night cards at the Eagles; he
18was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Anthony's Catholic
19Church in Matherville; he was known for having a "sweet tooth";
20he loved attending church, playing cards, watching baseball and
21westerns, and spending time with his family; he was a die-hard
22Chicago Cubs fan; and

1    WHEREAS, David Basala was preceded in death by his wife of
258 years, Beverly; his parents; and his brothers, Robert,
3Donald, Marlyn, and John; and
 
4    WHEREAS, David Basala is survived by his children, Nanette
5(Richard) Seith, David (Linda) Basala II, and Elizabeth (Keith)
6Gengler; his grandchildren, Eric Grawe, David Basala III,
7Nicholas Basala, Stephanie Hampton, Amanda Miller, David
8Smith, and Alexander Smith; eight great-grandchildren with one
9more on the way; his siblings, Lois (Deane) Frye, Dennis
10(Reeda) Basala, and James (Darlene) Basala; and his
11sisters-in-law, Marianne Basala and JoAnne Barnes; therefore,
12be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15David L. Basala and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of David Basala as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
