SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald R. "Don" Moran of Savoy, who
4passed away on October 7, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Moran was born in Thomasboro to Patrick and
6Margaret (Benting) Moran on March 5, 1933; he graduated from
7Rantoul Grade School and Rantoul Township High School; he
8received his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois
9University, his Master of Education from the University of
10Illinois, and a Certificate of College Business Management from
11the University of Kentucky; he served with the U.S. Army in the
122nd Armored Division in Germany and was awarded the Good
13Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army
14of Occupation of Germany Medal; he married Judyth Tenenholtz in
15Hawaii in 1978; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Don Moran retired in 1988 as the business manager
17(vice president for finance) of Parkland College, where he had
18also served as assistant business manager and chairman of the
19business division; prior to that, he was a member of the
20business education faculty at Rantoul Township High School; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Don Moran earned the professional registration
22certificate for both school business official and school

1business administrator; he was a member (emeritus) of the
2Association of School Business Officials of the United States
3and Canada and the Illinois Association of School Business
4Officials; he served as a staff member of the Illinois
5Administrator's Academy – Retired Professionals Service Corps;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Don Moran was a member of Chi Gamma Iota, Delta Pi
8Epsilon, the National Association of Retired Teachers, the
9Parkland College Foundation's Society of 1966, and the
10Livingston C. Lord Society of Eastern Illinois University; he
11was a former member of the Champaign and Urbana Chambers of
12Commerce, the Champaign Rotary Club, and the Illinois
13Association of Community College Business Administrators; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Don Moran was a past member of the church board of
15the Rantoul American Lutheran Church (1967-1970 and
161985-1987), the Rantoul High School Board of Education
17(1970-1973), the board of directors of the Illinois Association
18of Community Colleges (1979-1980), the village board of
19trustees of Thomasboro (1980-1985), the board of directors of
20the Champaign Chamber of Commerce (1982-1983), and the
21executive board of directors of the Champaign Rotary Club
22(1982-1983); he also served as treasurer of the Champaign
23Chamber of Commerce (1980-1982) and represented Rantoul
24Township High School District 193 on the Champaign-Ford

1Counties Educational Service Region Reorganization Committee;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Don Moran had articles published in professional
4journals, where he reported on different teaching
5methodologies that he developed in teaching accounting
6concepts, typing techniques, and general business theories; he
7is listed in the 1974-1975 edition of Outstanding Educators of
8America and the 1980-1981 Who's Who in the Midwest; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Don Moran was inducted into the Rantoul Township
10High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1984; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Don Moran held a registered Class C federal
12Securities and Exchange Commission license; in 1989, he was
13appointed marketing representative for the Illinois School
14District Liquid Asset Fund's East Central Illinois Territory,
15an 11-county area of 122 public school districts; he retired in
16January of 1995; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Don Moran loved telling stories and had a wry
18sense of humor; he loved writing monthly Letters to the Editor
19in The News-Gazette; but most of all, he loved his family; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Don Moran was preceded in death by his parents and
21his sister, Bonnie Moran; and

1    WHEREAS, Don Moran is survived by his wife, Judyth; his
2daughters, Lisa Moran, Lori (Courtney) Cole, and Lynda
3(Douglas) Watterson; his brother, David Moran; his
4grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Cole York, Jennifer (John) Cole
5Williams, Dallas (Erica) Watterson, and Justin Watterson; and
6his great-grandchildren, Lillian, Dexter, and Sawyer
7Watterson, Emma and Cole York, and Annabelle and Audrey
8Williams; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Donald R. "Don" Moran and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Don Moran as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
