2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dr. Grover L. Seitzinger of Chrisman, who |
4 | | passed away on September 27, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger was born in Crawford County to |
6 | | Leonard Eli and Bertha Edith Clark Seitzinger on August 9, |
7 | | 1925; he attended a rural elementary school and graduated from |
8 | | Flat Rock High School in 1943; he spent three years in the U.S. |
9 | | Navy Medical Corps, mostly in the Pacific; he was honorably |
10 | | discharged and entered the University of Illinois |
11 | | Urbana-Champaign in premedical studies in 1946; he completed |
12 | | his medical studies at the University of Illinois College of |
13 | | Medicine in Chicago in 1952; he married June Rose Jackson in |
14 | | 1953; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger completed an internship at Cook |
16 | | County Hospital and his residency in pathology at Augustana |
17 | | Hospital in Chicago; he became board certified in pathology |
18 | | and, in 1957, joined the medical staff of Lakeview Hospital as |
19 | | a pathologist and director of medical laboratories; he retired |
20 | | in 1988; he was on the medical staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital |
21 | | and was a consulting pathologist at Paris Community Hospital, |
22 | | Paxton Community Hospital, Hoopeston Community Hospital, and |
23 | | the Veterans Affairs hospital in Danville; he served on several |

1 | | committees and was a consultant to the Illinois Department of |
2 | | Public Health; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Education was very important to Dr. Seitzinger, |
4 | | not only for himself but for others; he served as director of |
5 | | the Lakeview School of Medical Technology and arranged |
6 | | affiliations with surrounding four-year colleges in Illinois |
7 | | and Indiana to convert the school from a three-year diploma |
8 | | program to a four-year degree program; he served on the |
9 | | advisory committee for the Premedical Studies Division at |
10 | | Eastern Illinois University and was on the original executive |
11 | | committee that established the University of Illinois College |
12 | | of Medicine at Urbana; he continued as a volunteer faculty |
13 | | member for over 25 years, retiring as a clinical associate |
14 | | professor in pathology in 1992; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger was a member of various |
16 | | organizations throughout this life, including the Vermilion |
17 | | County Medical Society (President), the Illinois State Medical |
18 | | Society, the American Medical Association, the American |
19 | | Association of Blood Banks, the College of American |
20 | | Pathologists (Fellow), the American Society of Clinical |
21 | | Pathologists (Fellow), the Illinois Society of Pathologists |
22 | | (President), the Illinois Association of Blood Banks, the |
23 | | Aesculapian Society of Wabash Valley, the Lakeview Medical |
24 | | Center Board, the Provena United Samaritan Medical Center Board |

1 | | and Foundation, the University of Illinois Foundation, the |
2 | | Danville Area Community College Foundation, the Danville |
3 | | Symphony Orchestra Board, the Danville Elks Blood Bank (Medical |
4 | | Director), the Danville Golden K Kiwanis, the Danville Country |
5 | | Club, the Danville Boat Club, the American Cancer Society |
6 | | Board, the American Heart Association Board, the University of |
7 | | Illinois Spurlock Museum Board, the Danville Chapter of the |
8 | | University of Illinois Alumni Association (Life Member), the |
9 | | Illinois Alumni Club (President), and the Danville Chamber of |
10 | | Commerce; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger received the Kiwanian of the Year |
12 | | Award and the Hixon Fellowship from the Kiwanis; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger was preceded in death by his |
14 | | parents; his brothers, Clark, Dwight, Vaughn, C.W., and Vance |
15 | | Seitzinger; and his sister, Nedra Seitzinger Johnson; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger is survived by his wife, June; his |
17 | | daughters, Brenda Gray and Karen (Todd) Baxter; his grandsons, |
18 | | Jared (Amber) Gray, Kyle (Juliet) Gray, Stephen Baxter, and |
19 | | Daniel Baxter; his great-grandchildren, Piper, Jackson, and |
20 | | Atlas Gray; his sister, Mary Joan O'Brian; and many nieces and |
21 | | nephews; therefore, be it
