SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Grover L. Seitzinger of Chrisman, who
4passed away on September 27, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger was born in Crawford County to
6Leonard Eli and Bertha Edith Clark Seitzinger on August 9,
71925; he attended a rural elementary school and graduated from
8Flat Rock High School in 1943; he spent three years in the U.S.
9Navy Medical Corps, mostly in the Pacific; he was honorably
10discharged and entered the University of Illinois
11Urbana-Champaign in premedical studies in 1946; he completed
12his medical studies at the University of Illinois College of
13Medicine in Chicago in 1952; he married June Rose Jackson in
141953; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger completed an internship at Cook
16County Hospital and his residency in pathology at Augustana
17Hospital in Chicago; he became board certified in pathology
18and, in 1957, joined the medical staff of Lakeview Hospital as
19a pathologist and director of medical laboratories; he retired
20in 1988; he was on the medical staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital
21and was a consulting pathologist at Paris Community Hospital,
22Paxton Community Hospital, Hoopeston Community Hospital, and
23the Veterans Affairs hospital in Danville; he served on several

1committees and was a consultant to the Illinois Department of
2Public Health; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Education was very important to Dr. Seitzinger,
4not only for himself but for others; he served as director of
5the Lakeview School of Medical Technology and arranged
6affiliations with surrounding four-year colleges in Illinois
7and Indiana to convert the school from a three-year diploma
8program to a four-year degree program; he served on the
9advisory committee for the Premedical Studies Division at
10Eastern Illinois University and was on the original executive
11committee that established the University of Illinois College
12of Medicine at Urbana; he continued as a volunteer faculty
13member for over 25 years, retiring as a clinical associate
14professor in pathology in 1992; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger was a member of various
16organizations throughout this life, including the Vermilion
17County Medical Society (President), the Illinois State Medical
18Society, the American Medical Association, the American
19Association of Blood Banks, the College of American
20Pathologists (Fellow), the American Society of Clinical
21Pathologists (Fellow), the Illinois Society of Pathologists
22(President), the Illinois Association of Blood Banks, the
23Aesculapian Society of Wabash Valley, the Lakeview Medical
24Center Board, the Provena United Samaritan Medical Center Board

1and Foundation, the University of Illinois Foundation, the
2Danville Area Community College Foundation, the Danville
3Symphony Orchestra Board, the Danville Elks Blood Bank (Medical
4Director), the Danville Golden K Kiwanis, the Danville Country
5Club, the Danville Boat Club, the American Cancer Society
6Board, the American Heart Association Board, the University of
7Illinois Spurlock Museum Board, the Danville Chapter of the
8University of Illinois Alumni Association (Life Member), the
9Illinois Alumni Club (President), and the Danville Chamber of
10Commerce; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger received the Kiwanian of the Year
12Award and the Hixon Fellowship from the Kiwanis; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger was preceded in death by his
14parents; his brothers, Clark, Dwight, Vaughn, C.W., and Vance
15Seitzinger; and his sister, Nedra Seitzinger Johnson; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Seitzinger is survived by his wife, June; his
17daughters, Brenda Gray and Karen (Todd) Baxter; his grandsons,
18Jared (Amber) Gray, Kyle (Juliet) Gray, Stephen Baxter, and
19Daniel Baxter; his great-grandchildren, Piper, Jackson, and
20Atlas Gray; his sister, Mary Joan O'Brian; and many nieces and
21nephews; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Dr. Grover L. Seitzinger and extend our sincere condolences to
3his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Dr. Seitzinger as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
