| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Duane L. Swenson of Rock Island, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 19, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Duane Swenson was born in Moline to Carl E. and | ||||||
6 | Jennie (Boom) Swenson on January 31, 1930; when he was eight | ||||||
7 | years old, his mother passed away; when he was 14 years old, | ||||||
8 | his father married Edna Wegge; he graduated from Moline High | ||||||
9 | School in January of 1948; after high school, he studied at | ||||||
10 | Black Hawk College; during the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in | ||||||
11 | the United States Navy and served from 1951 until 1954; he then | ||||||
12 | returned to college and earned his bachelor's degree in | ||||||
13 | marketing from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; he | ||||||
14 | married Margaret "Peg" Parsons at the First Congregational | ||||||
15 | Church in Moline on June 25, 1955; and

16 | WHEREAS, Duane Swenson began his career in production | ||||||
17 | control at KVP, a paper company in Michigan; he and his family | ||||||
18 | returned to the Quad-Cities, where he worked at Deere and | ||||||
19 | Company as an accountant and retired after 25 years of service; | ||||||
20 | he then worked at H & R Block during tax season for ten years; | ||||||
21 | he took great joy in his work as Santa's Helper at Duck Creek | ||||||
22 | Mall during the holiday season; and

1 | WHEREAS, Duane Swenson attended Trinity Lutheran Church | ||||||
2 | and then First Lutheran Church with his wife; he was a | ||||||
3 | dedicated member of the Moline Rotary for 40 years; he and Peg | ||||||
4 | led tours of the Western United States for Rotary Youth | ||||||
5 | Exchange students for 15 years; his proudest accomplishment was | ||||||
6 | receiving the Rotarian of the Year Award; he was a member of | ||||||
7 | the National Association of Accountants and served as | ||||||
8 | secretary, treasurer, and president; he was a member and | ||||||
9 | officer of the Moline After Dinner Club; he sang in several | ||||||
10 | church and civic choirs throughout his life and was in the | ||||||
11 | chorus of the first production season of the Moline Music | ||||||
12 | Guild; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Duane Swenson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
14 | parents; his brother, Robert Swenson; his son-in-law, James | ||||||
15 | Warren; and his great-grandson, James Swenson; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Duane Swenson is survived by his wife of over 64 | ||||||
17 | years, Margaret "Peg" Swenson; his children, Jennifer Swenson | ||||||
18 | Warren, Andrew (Susan) Swenson, and Thomas Swenson; his sister, | ||||||
19 | Helen Jean Frazier; eight grandchildren; ten | ||||||
20 | great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members | ||||||
21 | and friends; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
23 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Duane L. Swenson and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Duane Swenson as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our deepest sympathy.
