2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ronald A. "Ron" Raglin, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on August 26, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was born in Chicago to Jeanette (Reed) | ||||||
6 | Raglin and Clarence Williams on December 7, 1960; he attended | ||||||
7 | William Shakespeare Elementary School and the Sue Duncan | ||||||
8 | Children's Center; he graduated from Martin Luther King Jr. | ||||||
9 | High School in 1979, where he played basketball for the Jaguars | ||||||
10 | against players such as Isaiah Thomas, Mark Aguirre, and Doc | ||||||
11 | Rivers; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin relocated to California to play | ||||||
13 | basketball for the Blue Devils at Merced Community College; he | ||||||
14 | graduated in 1981 and began attending Sterling College in | ||||||
15 | Kansas, where he continued to play basketball for the Warriors; | ||||||
16 | he married Tena Powles on December 17, 1983 and graduated in | ||||||
17 | 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin spent his entire 35-year career in | ||||||
19 | public education; he started teaching and coaching in Dos | ||||||
20 | Palos, California and Merced, California; he returned to | ||||||
21 | Chicago and spent 10 years as an administrator in the Chicago | ||||||
22 | Public Schools; he then spent seven years in the U-46 School |

1 | District in Chicago's northwest suburbs as the Assistant | ||||||
2 | Superintendent of Educational Support Programs and Alignment | ||||||
3 | and the AVID District Director; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was an AVID teacher and administrator | ||||||
5 | for over 20 years, reaching thousands of students; he was a | ||||||
6 | passionate advocate for justice and equity for all students; | ||||||
7 | and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin received numerous recognitions over | ||||||
9 | the years, including the Jerry Sloan Summer Basketball Camp MVP | ||||||
10 | in 1978, being named as one of the 35 Outstanding Merced | ||||||
11 | College Alumni recognized on the 35th anniversary in 1998, the | ||||||
12 | Community HERO Award by the Merced Sun Star and Save Mart in | ||||||
13 | 1998, and the 34th Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. | ||||||
14 | Humanitarian Award of Elgin on January 19, 2019; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was a member of Willow Creek Community | ||||||
16 | Church and had previously served as a deacon and an elder; he | ||||||
17 | was active in many community organizations; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
19 | and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Ron Raglin is survived by his wife of 35 years, | ||||||
21 | Tena; his children, Matthew (Anastasia) and Marissa; his |

1 | grandchildren, Jayden, Amira, and Elianna; his sisters, | ||||||
2 | Jennifer Sturden and Yvonne Saks; his brother, Alvin Raglin; | ||||||
3 | numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law; | ||||||
4 | and extended family and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
7 | Ronald A. Raglin and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
8 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
9 | further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Ron Raglin as an expression of our | ||||||
12 | deepest sympathy.
