| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Barbara J. "Barb" Gross of Jacksonville, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on August 16, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross was born in Jacksonville to Harriet and | ||||||
6 | Everet Moss on October 5, 1928; she graduated from Jacksonville | ||||||
7 | High School in 1946 and married William L. Gross in 1949; | ||||||
8 | later, she studied at Lincoln Land Community College and | ||||||
9 | Sangamon State University; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross was a dedicated public official and | ||||||
11 | served as Morgan County Clerk from 1974 to 2010; she was well | ||||||
12 | respected by her peers and served as president of the | ||||||
13 | International Association of Clerks, Recorders and Election | ||||||
14 | Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT); she was one of Morgan | ||||||
15 | County's most popular public officials and was re-elected eight | ||||||
16 | times before her retirement in 2010; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross was passionate about politics and led | ||||||
18 | the Morgan County Democratic Women's Club for many years; she | ||||||
19 | ran for state representative and was elected several times as a | ||||||
20 | delegate to democratic presidential nominating conventions; | ||||||
21 | she served as grand marshal of the Jacksonville St. Patrick's | ||||||
22 | Day Parade, and she and her husband were always available to |

1 | represent Democrats at parades; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross loved her family and especially enjoyed | ||||||
3 | being a spectator at her grandchildren's athletic events; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross was a member of Central Christian | ||||||
5 | Church; she was active in the Jacksonville community and served | ||||||
6 | on the boards of the Educational Day Care Center, the American | ||||||
7 | Red Cross, the Girl Scouts, and the Jacksonville Library; she | ||||||
8 | volunteered for the Morgan County United Way, the Heart Fund, | ||||||
9 | and the American Cancer Society; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross was preceded in death by her husband of | ||||||
11 | 61 years, William, and her parents; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Barb Gross is survived by her daughter, Gayle | ||||||
13 | (James) Stewart; her sons, David (Barbara) and Tim Gross; her | ||||||
14 | grandchildren, Justin and Evan Stewart and Jay, Jeffrey, and | ||||||
15 | Joanna Gross; her brother, Warren (Sue) Moss; and her special | ||||||
16 | niece, Linda Hall Lewis; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Barbara J. "Barb" Gross and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
20 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
