|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of William Jens Moellering of Rock Island, |
4 | | who passed away on August 8, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering was born in Rock Island to |
6 | | Grover "Pete" and Christine Wadsager Moellering on July 10, |
7 | | 1927; he graduated from Rock Island High School; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering served in the U.S. Navy during |
9 | | World War II, where he sailed on the USS Donald W. Wolff in the |
10 | | Pacific from 1944 to 1946; he enjoyed passing time and |
11 | | entertaining his fellow sailors by playing the alto saxophone, |
12 | | which he learned how to play as a young boy; he was honored to |
13 | | participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2009; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering married Barbara Holland at |
15 | | First Christian Church in Rock Falls on March 13, 1955, and |
16 | | they settled in Rock Island; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering retired from Caterpillar in |
18 | | 1988 after 22 years of service; he previously worked for Servus |
19 | | Rubber, Rock Island Water Reservoir, Crompton's Service |
20 | | Station, Rock Island and Bettendorf, J.I. Case, Prudential |
21 | | Insurance, and Trinity Episcopal Church in Rock Island; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering was a member of Memorial |
2 | | Christian Church in Rock Island since 1959; he was a member of |
3 | | the Rock Island Masonic Lodge #658 for 34 years and spent 26 |
4 | | years with the Boy Scouts, where he served as the chaplain, |
5 | | assistant leader, chairman of advancements, and chairman of |
6 | | popcorn and Tom Watt sales; he also served on the Eagle Review |
7 | | Board for the Chief Blackhawk District; he was a member of the |
8 | | former Rock Island V.F.W. Post 1303 and participated in the |
9 | | CCC, Fort Armstrong Campers, Caterpillar Campers, Friends of |
10 | | the Rock Island Library, RSVP, and the QCCA; he spent 23 years |
11 | | playing the alto saxophone in a band, New Horizons, at |
12 | | C.A.S.I.; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering enjoyed fishing, hunting, |
14 | | watching the Cubs and Bears play, painting, woodworking, jigsaw |
15 | | puzzles, gemstone jewelry making, traveling, flower and |
16 | | vegetable gardening, volunteering at QCCA trade shows, |
17 | | homemade wine making, and playing the saxophone; he was also an |
18 | | avid reader of World War II history; he loved all his children |
19 | | and grandchildren and especially enjoyed watching them play |
20 | | sports; he even loved his cats; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering was preceded in death by his |
22 | | parents; his sister, Dorothy Ryan; and several cousins; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, William Moellering is survived by his wife, |
2 | | Barbara; his children, Barbara (Lonnie) Jacobs, Judy (Jerry) |
3 | | Mader, Cheryl (Rob) Faust, Bill Moellering, and Ken (Eve) |
4 | | Moellering; his grandchildren, Kathy Steele, Wendy Lionheart, |
5 | | Greg Minear, Jason Mader, Joshua Mader, Erin Borst, Brittany |
6 | | Haberthur, Lance Moellering, Emily Moellering, Calla |
7 | | Moellering, and Chloe Moellering; and his great-grandchildren, |
8 | | Dante, Shania, Stella, Ruby, Kira, Tucker, Sophia, Lucy, and |
9 | | the soon expected, Baby J; therefore, be it

10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
12 | | William Jens Moellering and extend our sincere condolences to |
13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
14 | | further

15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 | | presented to the family of William Moellering as an expression |
17 | | of our deepest sympathy.
