SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John D. Miller of Monticello, who passed
4away on May 15, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Miller was born to Essell and Helen (Cook)
6Miller on December 12, 1952; he graduated from Monticello High
7School in 1971; he served in the United States Army as an E-6
8Staff Sergeant in Germany; he served as a military police
9officer in the National Guard Army Reserves for 26 years,
10spending 15 of those years in an instructor role; he married
11Karen David on July 20, 1978; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Miller served as a police officer in Decatur
13and as police chief in Argenta; he was then hired by the
14Monticello Police Department, where he was named chief in
15October 1995; he held that post until his retirement in 2012;
16he was known for his forward thinking and was the first to make
17sure defibrillators were available in each squad car; he was
18also involved with the DARE Program; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In recent years, John Miller enjoyed serving as an
20alderman on the city council; he believed in justice,
21compassion, loyalty, and tradition and served both his
22community and country by those standards; and

1    WHEREAS, John Miller's love for his community and country
2was only exceeded by his love for his family and friends; he
3enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, hiking, hunting,
4bicycling, and spending time with those he loved; he was
5committed to his family and enjoyed serving and helping others,
6especially helping families through disaster relief
7organizations; he strived to be loyal, kind, and honorable to
8everyone he met; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Miller was preceded in death by his parents
10and his daughter, Christina; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Miller is survived by his wife, Karen; his
12daughters, Stephanie (James) Stevens and Kelly Miller; his
13grandsons, Brock and Clayton; and his brothers, Ron (Kathy),
14Gary (Jeanie), and Terry (Mary); therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17John D. Miller and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of John Miller as an expression of our
