SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Cecil Gilson Jr. of Havana, who passed
4away on April 30, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was born in Canton to Cecil Sr. and
6Leah Showens Gibson on October 5, 1928; he graduated from
7Canton High School and Brown Business College; he married
8Elnora Bohm in Havana on June 3, 1951; he served in the
9military during the Korean War and in the National Guard for 25
10years, retiring as Major; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson retired from International Harvester
12after 36 years and the Secretary of State Driver's License
13Facility after 8 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was active in the Havana community,
15serving as an alderman and helping to establish the TIF
16district; he and Elnora spent 17 years volunteering for the
17American Red Cross, organizing local blood drives; he donated
18over 25 gallons of blood and platelets in his lifetime; in
192002, he was honored for his civic involvement by receiving the
202002 Havana Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was active in the Havana Church of

1Christ, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon,
2Elder, Trustee, Chairman of the Board, and Chairman of the
3Building and Grounds Committee; his greatest pleasure came from
4time spent with family; he spent countless hours helping to
5build or remodel homes, watching his sons and grandchildren
6compete in various sporting events, and chauffeuring
7grandchildren to school and appointments; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson was preceded in death by his parents;
9his sisters, Vera Mae Savill and Barbara Bell; and his brother,
10Tom Gilson; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Cecil Gilson is survived by his wife, Elnora; his
12sons, Marshall (Karen) Gilson, Kevin (Sherry) Gilson, and Craig
13(Jenni) Gilson; his grandchildren, Andy (Melissa) Gilson, Kirk
14(Aneesha) Gilson, Tony (Steph) Gilson, Josh (Jackie) Gilson,
15Jay Gilson, Jess (Tyler) Sayers, and Ashleigh (Kyle) Gilson;
16and his great-children, Ryan and Jack Gilson, Alexis Sayers,
17Eleigh and Kyleigh Gustafson, Brooklyn Gilson, and Evan Miller;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Cecil Gilson Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
