SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jack A. Henderson of Gurnee, who passed
4away on April 11, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Henderson was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on
6March 28, 1930; he attended high school in Kenosha and
7graduated from Waukegan Township High School; in 1950, he
8enlisted in the United States Navy and served loyally in combat
9operations for four years while aboard the USS Blue and the USS
10Juneau; in 1953, while serving in the Korean War, he was
11baptized into the Roman Catholic faith; he married Marion
12Deinlein at St. Mary in Fremont Center on November 20, 1954;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, After returning from the war, Jack Henderson began
15his career as a firefighter in Highland Park; he rose to the
16rank of lieutenant at the North Chicago Fire Department; he
17served as fire chief at Abbott Lab; inspired by his father, who
18was also a firefighter, he inspired his two sons and a grandson
19to become firefighters and paramedics; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jack Henderson enjoyed traveling and visited the
21Far East, the Middle East, and various places in Europe; he
22traveled to the Lakewoods Resort in Cable, Wisconsin every

1summer to vacation with his family; he would tell stories
2around the campfire, teach his grandchildren how to drive on
3the backroads around the resort, and take his grandchildren on
4"bear excursions"; he loved his grandchildren, and they called
5him "Grampa Apple"; he began playing golf at age 52 and
6routinely played five days a week; he remained close with his
7military comrades and enjoyed the annual USS Juneau reunions
8with his shipmates; in 2018, he participated in a Honor Flight
9trip to Washington, D.C. and was accompanied by his grandson,
10Ryan; they had the privilege and honor of visiting the Korean
11War Memorial; affectionately known as "Apple Jack", he will be
12remembered for his sense of humor, compassion, and smile; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jack Henderson is survived by his wife, Marion;
14his children, Doug (Jill) Henderson, Greg (Jane) Henderson,
15Jeff (Beth) Henderson, and Tina (Mike) Burke; his
16grandchildren, Sarah and Brian Henderson, Paul (Danielle) and
17Jeff Henderson, Chris, Michael, and Liza Henderson, and Ryan,
18Katie, and Jack Burke; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte
19and Vivian Henderson; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Jack A. Henderson and extend our sincere condolences to his
23family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

3our deepest sympathy.
