2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Augustine Joseph "Steno" Circello of Rock |
4 | | Island, who passed away on April 10, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Augustine Circello was born in Rock Island to |
6 | | Charlie "Peanut" and Lucy (Polito) Circello on June 6, 1925; he |
7 | | graduated from Saint Joseph's High School; he served in the |
8 | | U.S. Army during World War II with the 63rd Infantry Division |
9 | | and then the 83rd Combat Infantry Division; he was part of the |
10 | | initial D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France; he |
11 | | was also involved in the campaigns in Northern France, the |
12 | | Ardennes, and the Rhineland, which included the Battle of the |
13 | | Bulge; his company received a Presidential Citation for the |
14 | | capture of 20,000 Germans in Southern France; he earned the |
15 | | Purple Heart Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and received an |
16 | | honorable discharge; he married Alice Johnson in 1945; he later |
17 | | married Lucille Grace in 1963; and

18 | | WHEREAS, Augustine Circello's was with Hardee's |
19 | | Restaurants since 1972 and was president of the 53rd Street |
20 | | Hardee's restaurant; he was also president of the Tall Corn |
21 | | Corporation in Davenport, Iowa; and
