2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Elmer B. "Whitey" Hacker, who passed away |
4 | | on December 20, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Elmer Hacker was born in Waukegan to Elmer and |
6 | | Emily Hacker; after completing his freshman year at Waukegan |
7 | | Township High School, he attended school in North Chicago and |
8 | | graduated from North Chicago High School in 1955; after |
9 | | graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, where he was |
10 | | stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine and |
11 | | served in the Strategic Air Command as a hydraulic mechanic and |
12 | | in-line fueling specialist for B52 bombers; he was honorably |
13 | | discharged in 1959; he returned home and married Joan Merlock |
14 | | on May 28, 1960; they later divorced but remained friends; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Elmer Hacker worked as a machinist, draftsman, and |
16 | | mechanical engineer before driving trucks and hauling lowboy |
17 | | trailers for Skokie Valley Asphalt in Waukegan, a job he really |
18 | | loved; he retired in 1998; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, In 1980, Elmer Hacker met his current wife, Liz |
20 | | (Patty) Idstrom, and they were happy together for almost 39 |
21 | | years; in 1998, they moved to Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; and
|
