2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Eugene V. "Radio" Thompson of | ||||||
4 | Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Danville, who passed away on | ||||||
5 | March 11, 2019; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Eugene Thompson was born to Henry and Lorene | ||||||
7 | Gillet Thompson on October 10, 1925; he was a veteran of World | ||||||
8 | War II and the Korean War; he raised eight children and | ||||||
9 | stepchildren; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Eugene Thompson retired as a parts inspector from | ||||||
11 | General Motors in 1975 after 35 years of service; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, As one of Danville's first black alderman, Eugene | ||||||
13 | Thompson helped pave the way for minority representation in | ||||||
14 | city government; he worked to improve the older neighborhoods | ||||||
15 | and the lives of their residents; he remained a government | ||||||
16 | watchdog well into his 80s; he was a lifetime member of the VFW | ||||||
17 | and American Legion; he was the first recipient of the Illinois | ||||||
18 | Humanities Council's Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award | ||||||
19 | from Danville; he also received the Martin Luther King Jr. | ||||||
20 | Community Service Award; and

21 | WHEREAS, Eugene Thompson was preceded in death by his |

1 | parents; his stepson, Darrell Dwayne Lewis; his sister, Hallie | ||||||
2 | Thompson Hardy Lewis; his brothers, Henry "Hank" Thompson, | ||||||
3 | William "Bill" Thompson, and Robert "Bob" Thompson; his former | ||||||
4 | wives, Willie Maxine (Thompson) Lollis, Lugenia Triplett | ||||||
5 | Thompson, and Alpha Mae Johnson Thompson; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Eugene Thompson is survived by his wife, Loretta | ||||||
7 | Perkins-Thompson; his children, Anthony R. (Connie) Thompson, | ||||||
8 | Rhonda L. (Emanuel) Brown, Nicholas E. Thompson, and Gregory V. | ||||||
9 | Thompson; his stepchildren, Kim Triplett, Denise Mockabee, | ||||||
10 | Carmen Gray, and Kelli Kindle; and his many grandchildren, | ||||||
11 | great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Eugene V. "Radio" Thompson and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
16 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
17 | it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Eugene Thompson as an expression of | ||||||
20 | our deepest sympathy.
