SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The month of March is Women's History Month and
3celebrates the significant contributions women of all races,
4ethnicities, and backgrounds have made to the world; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Women play a critical role in the vitality and
6diversity of our communities and are essential to ensuring
7Illinois is well-represented; and
 
8    WHEREAS, While the 20th century was a pivotal time of
9growth for women entering politics, women remain
10underrepresented in male-dominated fields, so providing
11opportunities to support women in public office is imperative;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Recognizing women in public office will bring
14awareness to the fundamental necessity of their work and will
15inspire other young people to serve their communities;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 19,
192019 to be Celebrating Women in Public Office Day, support the
20success of women in public office, and encourage the people of
21Illinois to observe this day with appropriate activities,

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Jessica Becker, Executive Director of the
4Conference of Women Legislators, as a symbol of our respect and
5esteem.
