SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis E. "Louie" Lyons of Pontiac, who
4passed away on March 10, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Louie Lyons was born in Pontiac to Edward and
6Theresa McCarthy Lyons on September 26, 1931; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Louie Lyons began his career in insurance sales in
81954; he opened his own agency in 1962; he was elected as the
9Pontiac Township Supervisor in 1969, a position he held for 48
10years until his retirement in 2017; he became a real estate
11broker in 1973 and opened Louis Lyons Realty in 1978; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Louie Lyons was active in many organizations; he
13was a member of the Livingston County Board from 1969 until
141978, serving as the board chairman the last two years; he
15helped organize the Livingston County Board of Realtors in 1979
16and served as president in 1983; he was a member of the
17Humiston Trust Board, serving as chairman since 2006; he was
18named Realtor of the Year in 1983, Pontiac Businessman of the
19Year in 2010, and Citizen of the Year in 2004; he was a
20Mid-Central Community Action member and received the Community
21Services Award in 2002; he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
22Church and the Pontiac Elks Club for over 60 years; he enjoyed

1spending summers fishing for crappie on White Lake in Michigan;
2he and Kay were often seen "summer driving" in his 1971 Buick
3Skylark convertible on the Pontiac square and at Dairy Queen;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Louie Lyons was preceded in death by his parents
6and his brother, Gene Lyons; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Louie Lyons is survived by his wife of 65 years,
8Kay; his sons, Lon (Robin) Lyons, Larry (Maureen) Lyons, and
9Jim (Cindy) Lyons; his brothers, Owen (Patricia) Lyons and
10Harold "Pink" Lyons; his sisters, Frances Russow and Kathleen
11Rathbun; and his grandchildren, Matt (LB) Lyons, Kristin Lyons,
12Jamie (Robert) Langworthy, Jared Lyons, Kelsey Lyons, and Tyler
13Lyons; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Louis E. "Louie" Lyons and extend our sincere condolences to
17his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Louie Lyons as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
