SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald B. "Don" Vanderventer of Waukegan,
4who passed away on February 5, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer was born in Waukegan to Bernard
6and Anna on November 28, 1927; he graduated from Waukegan High
7School; he earned his bachelor's degree from Bradley University
8and his master's degree from Northern Illinois University; he
9served in the U.S. Marines from 1945 to 1949 and married Pat
10Nehring on September 16, 1950; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer spent his career as a teacher and
12guidance counselor at Waukegan Public Schools from 1960 until
13retiring in 1988; prior to that, he worked for Johnson Motors
14as a traveling salesman in the Midwest; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer enjoyed spending time with his
16family, fishing in Canada, watching Jeopardy, and working in
17his yard; he was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the
18Chicago Cubs, so much so that he had a Cubs emblem engraved on
19his headstone; he volunteered at St. Anastasia School and was a
20frequent visitor at the Waukegan Public Library; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer was preceded in death by his wife

1of 56 years, Pat; his son-in-law, Tom Lee; his parents; his
2sister, Marilyn; his brother, Richard; his brothers-in-law,
3Bill and George; his mother-in-law, Blanche; and his
4father-in-law, Shorty Nehring; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer is survived by his children, Don
6(Mary Ellen), Scott (Cherri), Jim (Nan), Donna (Roy) Lee, and
7Leslie (Juan) Hernandez; his grandchildren, Katie, Cory,
8Dillon, Scotty, and Kelli; his step-granddaughter, Candace;
9and his great-grandchildren, Wesley, Whitney, and Preston
10Thomas; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Donald B. "Don" Vanderventer of Waukegan and extend our sincere
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Don Vanderventer as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
