2 | | WHEREAS, The healthcare community, including hospitals, |
3 | | medical clinics, mental health
facilities, long-term care |
4 | | facilities, and private physicians, does not have a standard |
5 | | military inquiry
upon intake or admission; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Only 16% of military veterans receive all of their |
7 | | healthcare from VA
hospitals, medical clinics, mental health |
8 | | facilities, long-term care facilities, and private physician
|
9 | | offices; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Veterans have potentially unique healthcare |
11 | | concerns; providers need to be aware of every patient or |
12 | | resident's veteran status and be educated on the best
practices |
13 | | when providing care; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that healthcare providers |
16 | | are urged to include on each patient intake form a question |
17 | | asking
"Have you or your spouse ever served in the military?"; |
18 | | and be it further |
19 | | RESOLVED, That healthcare providers are urged to institute |
20 | | a process that informs all
organizational staff of a patient or |
21 | | resident's veteran status; and be it further |
