Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the oath of office for each prospective holder of a State office shall include an affirmation to protect and honor the diversity of the people of Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |
5 | | CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the |
6 | | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general |
7 | | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of |
8 | | this resolution a proposition to amend Section 3 of Article |
9 | | XIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

13 | | SECTION 3. OATH OR AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE
|
14 | | Each prospective holder of a State office or other State |
15 | | position
created by this Constitution, before taking office, |
16 | | shall take and
subscribe to the following oath or affirmation:

17 | | "I do solemnly swear (affirm) that I will support the |
18 | | Constitution of
the United States, and the Constitution of the |
19 | | State of Illinois, and protect and honor the diversity of the |
20 | | people of this great State as provided in the Illinois Human |
21 | | Rights Act, and
that I will faithfully discharge the duties of |
22 | | the office of .... to the
best of my ability."
