4 | | "WHEREAS, The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common |
5 | | sexually transmitted virus in the United
States; nearly 14 |
6 | | million people become infected each year; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, HPV causes approximately 33,700 cases of |
8 | | HPV-associated cancers each year, including
cervical, anal, |
9 | | and oropharyngeal cancers; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, 9-valent HPV vaccine protects against nine types |
11 | | of HPV infection; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, The HPV vaccine was tested before being licensed |
13 | | by the Food and Drug
Administration and continues to be |
14 | | monitored by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and |

1 | | the Food and Drug Administration; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, The most common side effects are mild and include |
3 | | pain, redness, or swelling in the arm where the shot is given; |
4 | | dizziness, fainting, nausea, and headaches can also occur; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the |
6 | | Advisory Committee on Immunization
Practices (ACIP) recommend |
7 | | two doses of HPV vaccine for males and females ages 11-12; the
|
8 | | vaccine is approved for men and women through age 45; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, In Illinois, only 50 percent of males and females |
10 | | ages 13-17 years were up to date on HPV vaccination in
2017; |
11 | | therefore, be it |
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL

13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

14 | | CONCURRING HEREIN,
that we encourage adolescents in Illinois to

15 | | receive the HPV vaccine to protect themselves against HPV
|
16 | | infection and HPV-related cancers."
