SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
60 ILCS 1/100-15

    Amends the Township Code. Provides that, except as otherwise required by a contract existing on the effective date of the amendatory Act or by federal law, a township board shall not provide group life, health, accident, hospital, or dental insurance or any combination of those types of insurance to the spouse of an employee or official or provide such insurances after the employee's employment ends or official's term of office expires.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section
5100-15 as follows:
 
6    (60 ILCS 1/100-15)
7    Sec. 100-15. Group insurance. In addition to any powers
8that it may exercise under the Government Salary Withholding
9Act, the township board may provide, for the benefit of the
10township's employees or , officials, or retired officials and
11their dependents, group life, health, accident, hospital, or
12dental insurance or any combination of those types of
13insurance. Except as otherwise required by a contract existing
14on the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 101st
15General Assembly or by federal law, the township board shall
16not provide such insurances to the spouse of an employee or
17official or provide such insurances after the employee's
18employment ends or official's term of office expires. The
19insurance may include provision for employees, officials,
20retired officials, and their dependents who rely on treatment
21by prayer or spiritual means alone for healing in accordance
22with the tenets and practice of a well recognized religious
23denomination. The township board may provide for payment by the

1township of all or a portion of the premium or charge for the
2insurance for covered persons, except that the township may not
3pay all or a portion of the premium or charge for the insurance
4for retired officials and their dependents. If the township
5board undertakes a plan under which the township does not pay
6the entire amount of premiums or charges for the insurance, the
7board may provide for withholding and deducting from the
8compensation of its employees or officers amounts required to
9pay the balance of the premiums or charges.
