SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/12-803  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-803

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a school bus owner may affix to the school bus a sign displaying the fines a driver may incur if he or she passes a school bus while: (i) the school bus is stopped and the stop signal arm is extended; or (ii) the school bus is stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging pupils. Provides that the sign may be affixed to the back of the school bus or to the stop arm signal.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 12-803 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/12-803)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-803)
7    Sec. 12-803. (a) Each school bus shall be equipped with a
8stop signal arm on the driver's side of the school bus that may
9be operated either manually or mechanically. For each school
10bus manufactured on and after September 1, 1992, the stop
11signal arm shall be an octagon shaped semaphore that conforms
12to 49 C.F.R. 571.131, "SCHOOL BUS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY DEVICES",
13S5.1 through S5.5.
14    (b) Each school bus manufactured prior to September 1, 1992
15shall be equipped with a stop signal arm that conforms to
16standards promulgated by the Department.
17    (c) A school bus owner may affix to the school bus a sign
18displaying the fines a driver may incur under subsection (f) of
19Section 11-1414 if he or she passes a school bus while: (i) the
20school bus is stopped and the stop signal arm is extended; or
21(ii) the school bus is stopped for the purpose of receiving or
22discharging pupils. The sign may be affixed to the back of the
23school bus or to the stop arm signal.
