Amends the Election Code. Provides that a person commits a Class A misdemeanor if the person, with intent to injure a candidate or influence the result of an election, creates a deep fake video (a video created with the intent to deceive that appears to depict a real person performing an action that did not occur in reality) and causes the deep fake video to be published or distributed within 30 days of an election.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 29-21 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (10 ILCS 5/29-21 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 29-21. Deep fake videos. |
| 8 | | (a) As used in this Section, "deep fake video" means a |
| 9 | | video created, with the intent to deceive, that appears to |
| 10 | | depict a real person performing an action that did not occur in |
| 11 | | reality. |
| 12 | | (b) A person commits a Class A misdemeanor if the person, |
| 13 | | with intent to injure a candidate or influence the result of an |
| 14 | | election: |
| 15 | | (1) creates a deep fake video; and |
| 16 | | (2) causes the deep fake video to be published or |
| 17 | | distributed within 30 days of an election.
