Amends the Township Code. Provides that if the Secretary of State finds that any 2 or more townships within a single county (currently, 2 or more townships within the entire State) are named alike, he or she shall so inform the clerk of the county and the county board of that county shall, at its next meeting, adopt for one of the townships a different name. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section |
5 | | 5-55 as follows:
|
6 | | (60 ILCS 1/5-55)
|
7 | | Sec. 5-55. Duplicate township names. If the Secretary of |
8 | | State, on comparing
the abstracts of the reports from the |
9 | | several counties, finds that any 2 or
more townships within a |
10 | | single county are named alike, he or she shall so inform the |
11 | | clerk of the county
which last adopted the name . The county |
12 | | board of that county shall, at its next
meeting, adopt for one |
13 | | of the townships a the township some different name. When the |
14 | | name is adopted,
the county clerk shall inform the Secretary of |
15 | | State as provided in Section
5-50.
