Amends the State Police Act. Provides that the Illinois State Police shall pay directly (rather than directly or reimburse), up to a maximum of $20,000, the burial expenses of each State police officer who is
killed in the line of duty. Provides that the payment shall be made to the widow or widower, other dependent, next of kin, or the person or persons incurring the expenses of the burial. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 12.2 as follows:
|
6 | | (20 ILCS 2610/12.2)
|
7 | | Sec. 12.2. Burial benefit for State police officers killed |
8 | | in the line of
duty. |
9 | | (a) The Illinois Department of State Police shall pay |
10 | | directly or reimburse , up to a
maximum of $20,000, the burial |
11 | | expenses of each State police officer who is
killed in the line |
12 | | of duty after June 30, 2018. The payment shall be made to the |
13 | | widow or widower, other dependent, next of kin, or the person |
14 | | or persons incurring the expenses of the burial.

15 | | (b) The payments provided for in this Section shall be paid |
16 | | out of moneys
appropriated to the Illinois State Police |
17 | | Department for the personal services of State police
officers.

18 | | (c) The Illinois Department of State Police shall adopt |
19 | | rules governing the
administration of this Section.
