3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | | "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Sections 7-42 and 17-15 as follows:

7 | | Sec. 7-42.
|
8 | | (a) Any person entitled to vote at such primary shall, on |
9 | | the day of
such primary, with the consent of his employer be |
10 | | entitled to absent
himself from any service or employment in |
11 | | which he is then engaged or
employed for a period of two hours |
12 | | between the time of opening and closing
the polls. The employer |
13 | | may specify the hours during which said employe may
absent |
14 | | himself.

15 | | (b) Beginning the 15th day before the primary election or |
16 | | on the day of the primary election, any student entitled to |
|

1 | | vote at such primary shall be entitled to be absent from school |
2 | | for a period of 2 hours during the school day in order to vote. |
3 | | The school may specify the hours during which the eligible |
4 | | student may be absent. A student who is absent from school |
5 | | under this subsection (b) is not considered absent for the |
6 | | purpose of calculating enrollment under Section 18-8.15 of the |
7 | | School Code. |

11 | | (a) Any person entitled to vote at a general or special |

at any election at which propositions are submitted |
13 | | to a popular vote in
this State, shall, on the day of such |
14 | | election, be entitled to absent
himself from any services or |
15 | | employment in which he is then engaged or
employed, for a |
16 | | period of 2 hours between the time of opening and closing
the |
17 | | polls; and such voter shall not because of so absenting himself |
18 | | be
liable to any penalty; Provided, however, that application |
19 | | for such leave
of absence shall be made prior to the day of |
20 | | election. The employer may
specify the hours during which said |
21 | | employee may absent himself as
aforesaid, except that the |
22 | | employer must permit a 2-hour absence during working hours if |
23 | | the employee's working hours begin less than 2 hours after the |
24 | | opening of the polls and end less than 2 hours before the |
25 | | closing of the polls. No person or corporation shall refuse to |

privilege hereby conferred, nor shall subject |
2 | | an employee to a penalty, including a reduction in compensation |
3 | | due to an absence under this Section,
because of the exercise |
4 | | of such privilege, nor shall directly or indirectly
violate the |
5 | | provisions of this Section.

9 | | special election or any election at which propositions are |
10 | | submitted to a popular vote in
this State, any student entitled |

13 | | to vote. The school may specify the hours during which the |
14 | | eligible student may be absent.
A student who is absent from |
15 | | school under this subsection (b) is not considered absent for |
16 | | the purpose of calculating enrollment under Section 18-8.15 of |
17 | | the School Code. |
