Amends the Criminal and Traffic Assessment Act. Provides that, in counties in which the Court Appointed Special Advocates provide services, a county board may adopt a mandatory assessment between $10 and $30 to be paid by defendants found guilty of offenses requiring a court appearance. Provides that this assessment is in addition to any other assessment that may be imposed under the Act. Effective July 1, 2019.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Criminal and Traffic Assessment Act is |
5 | | amended by adding Section 15-75 as follows: |
6 | | (705 ILCS 135/15-75 new) |
7 | | Sec. 15-75. Court Appointed Special Advocates. In addition |
8 | | to any other assessment that may be imposed under a schedule |
9 | | set forth in this Article, in each county in which the Court |
10 | | Appointed Special Advocates provide services, the county board |
11 | | may adopt a mandatory assessment of between $10 and $30 to be |
12 | | paid by the defendant on a judgment or plea of guilty or a |
13 | | grant of supervision for a felony, misdemeanor, petty offense, |
14 | | or business offense, where a court appearance is required. |
15 | | Assessments shall be collected by the clerk of the circuit |
16 | | court and must be deposited into an account specifically for |
17 | | the operations of the Court Appointed Special Advocates. The |
18 | | clerk of the circuit court shall collect the assessments as |
19 | | provided in this subsection and must remit the assessments to |
20 | | the Court Appointed Special Advocates Fund that the county |
21 | | board shall create for the receipt of funds collected under |
22 | | this subsection, and from which the county board shall make |
23 | | grants to support the activities and services of the Court |
