HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate State Representative
4Lindsay A. Parkhurst on her distinguished service to the 79th
5District and the people of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was born on January 14,
71963 to parents, Donald and Betty Parkhurst, and her parents
8instilled the values of community volunteering, philanthropy,
9and promoting community growth; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst met her husband, Marc
11Magiera, in Kankakee, where they still reside and have raised
12their daughter, Lucy; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst attended the University
14of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received a Bachelor
15of Arts in Honors English; she earned her Juris Doctorate at
16the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of
17Technology and earned a Master of Law from the DePaul
18University College of Law; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was admitted to the
20Illinois Bar in 1989, the United States District Court,
21Northern District of Illinois in 1989, and the United States

1District Court, Central District of Illinois in 2002; and
 
2    WHEREAS, For 27 years, Representative Parkhurst practiced
3law as both a civil and criminal defense attorney with
4experience in litigation and trial practice, having opened her
5own general practice law office in Kankakee in 2000, as well as
6serving as a Kankakee County Assistant Public Defender for
7juvenile and abuse and neglect cases from 2005 to 2014; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was elected to the
9Illinois House of Representatives in 2016 and sworn in on
10January 11, 2017; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst was awarded an Edgar
12Fellowship at the University of Illinois Institute of
13Government & Public Affairs in 2017; and
 
14    WHEREAS, During her time in the legislature,
15Representative Parkhurst advanced key legislation on juvenile
16probation, Mason's Law to protect children, promoted job
17creation, promoted good government through closing conflict of
18interest loopholes and increasing government transparency, and
19addressed the substitute teacher shortage, as well as pursued
20policies to advance child support reforms, fight tax increases,
21and advance local revitalization efforts along the Kankakee
22River; and

1    WHEREAS, Representative Parkhurst has always maintained a
2steadfast commitment to volunteerism and community service,
3having served as president of the Kankakee Society of Women in
4Law, as Social Chair of the Kankakee County Bar Association, as
5Vice Chair of the Two Rivers Area Credit Union, as Board Member
6and grants committee member of the Community Foundation, and as
7Co-chair of the Prairie State Legal Services Fundraising
8Committee in Kankakee, as well as volunteering her time at
9Aquinas Catholic Academy and Bishop McNamara Catholic High
10School and Kankakee Community College for its Lex Paralegal
11Society; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Although Representative Parkhurst is not
13returning to the General Assembly, she is continuing her public
14service as Circuit Judge with the 21st Judicial Circuit of
15Illinois; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we thank the Honorable Lindsay A. Parkhurst for her service to
19the constituents of the 79th District and the State of Illinois
20and wish her well in her continued public service to the
21constituents of the 21st Judicial Circuit of Illinois; and be
22it further
