|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate our colleague |
4 | | Representative John M. Cabello of Machesney Park on his |
5 | | distinguished service to the people of the State of Illinois; |
6 | | and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello has been a member of the |
8 | | Illinois House since 2012 and has served this body with honor |
9 | | and distinction; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Texas, Representative Cabello and his |
11 | | family moved to Machesney Park when he was a young child; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello attended and graduated |
13 | | from Harlem High School in Machesney Park; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, As a youth, Representative Cabello was a member of |
15 | | the acclaimed Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello began serving his |
17 | | community after graduation from the police academy by becoming |
18 | | a police officer for South Beloit and later transferring to |
19 | | Rockford, where he became a detective; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello volunteered as Chairman of |
2 | | the Machesney Park Zoning Board of Appeals from 2006 to 2008 |
3 | | before becoming a Harlem Township Trustee, where he served from |
4 | | 2008 to 2010; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, In 2010, Representative Cabello was elected to the |
6 | | Winnebago County Board for District 8 and served until 2012; |
7 | | and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello was appointed State |
9 | | Representative for the 68th District in August 2012 to fill the |
10 | | unexpired term of State Representative Dave Winters; he was |
11 | | elected to a full two-year term in November 2012; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello was subsequently |
13 | | re-elected in 2014, 2016, and 2018, during which time he was a |
14 | | tireless advocate for taxpayers, veterans, first responders, |
15 | | Second Amendment rights, ethics reform, and the needs of Rock |
16 | | Cut State Park; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, During his final term in the General Assembly, |
18 | | Representative Cabello served with distinction on the First |
19 | | Responders Suicide Task Force to address the emotional health |
20 | | needs of police, fire, and emergency response personnel; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, One of Representative Cabello's lasting |

1 | | achievements came in 2017 when the Illinois General Assembly |
2 | | enacted the Officer Greg Lindmark Memorial Law, sponsored by |
3 | | Representative Cabello, which requires that police officers |
4 | | receive training in effective recognition of and responses to |
5 | | stress, trauma, and post-traumatic stress experienced by |
6 | | police officers; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello has been honored to serve |
8 | | the people of the 68th District, which includes portions of |
9 | | Rockford, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Loves Park, and Cherry |
10 | | Valley; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello previously served on the |
12 | | board of two national Republican organizations, Future |
13 | | Majority Project and GOPAC; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Representative Cabello plans to continue to serve |
15 | | as a police detective and remain active in civic affairs; |
16 | | therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
18 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
19 | | we congratulate Representative John M. Cabello on his |
20 | | retirement from the General Assembly and wish him all the best |
21 | | in his future endeavors; and be it further
