HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate our colleague
4Representative John M. Cabello of Machesney Park on his
5distinguished service to the people of the State of Illinois;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello has been a member of the
8Illinois House since 2012 and has served this body with honor
9and distinction; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Born in Texas, Representative Cabello and his
11family moved to Machesney Park when he was a young child; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello attended and graduated
13from Harlem High School in Machesney Park; and
 
14    WHEREAS, As a youth, Representative Cabello was a member of
15the acclaimed Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello began serving his
17community after graduation from the police academy by becoming
18a police officer for South Beloit and later transferring to
19Rockford, where he became a detective; and

1    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello volunteered as Chairman of
2the Machesney Park Zoning Board of Appeals from 2006 to 2008
3before becoming a Harlem Township Trustee, where he served from
42008 to 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In 2010, Representative Cabello was elected to the
6Winnebago County Board for District 8 and served until 2012;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello was appointed State
9Representative for the 68th District in August 2012 to fill the
10unexpired term of State Representative Dave Winters; he was
11elected to a full two-year term in November 2012; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello was subsequently
13re-elected in 2014, 2016, and 2018, during which time he was a
14tireless advocate for taxpayers, veterans, first responders,
15Second Amendment rights, ethics reform, and the needs of Rock
16Cut State Park; and
 
17    WHEREAS, During his final term in the General Assembly,
18Representative Cabello served with distinction on the First
19Responders Suicide Task Force to address the emotional health
20needs of police, fire, and emergency response personnel; and
 
21    WHEREAS, One of Representative Cabello's lasting

1achievements came in 2017 when the Illinois General Assembly
2enacted the Officer Greg Lindmark Memorial Law, sponsored by
3Representative Cabello, which requires that police officers
4receive training in effective recognition of and responses to
5stress, trauma, and post-traumatic stress experienced by
6police officers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello has been honored to serve
8the people of the 68th District, which includes portions of
9Rockford, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Loves Park, and Cherry
10Valley; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello previously served on the
12board of two national Republican organizations, Future
13Majority Project and GOPAC; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Representative Cabello plans to continue to serve
15as a police detective and remain active in civic affairs;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we congratulate Representative John M. Cabello on his
20retirement from the General Assembly and wish him all the best
21in his future endeavors; and be it further
