2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Scott J. | ||||||
4 | Helton, Ed.D., who passed away on December 10, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Helton was born on August 13, 1962; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Helton's career in education | ||||||
8 | spanned over 33 years; he worked as a science teacher, a dean | ||||||
9 | of students, an assistant principal, and an associate principal | ||||||
10 | in different schools before coming to Addison Trail High | ||||||
11 | School; he was the principal of Addison Trail High School for | ||||||
12 | 11 years, where he was a common sight at sporting events and | ||||||
13 | theater productions; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Helton became the superintendent | ||||||
15 | of DuPage High School District 88 in 2012 and served in that | ||||||
16 | role until his death; he put an emphasis on working with | ||||||
17 | colleges and universities to expand dual-credit classes so the | ||||||
18 | district's students could earn college credit and get a head | ||||||
19 | start on their future while still in high school; he also | ||||||
20 | expanded opportunities for students who may have previously | ||||||
21 | been overlooked to take college-level Advanced Placement | ||||||
22 | courses; he was determined to maintain career and technical |

1 | classes, as well as arts and music; he strove to support the | ||||||
2 | school systems that feed into District 88, with the mutual goal | ||||||
3 | of providing a seamless transition from middle to high school; | ||||||
4 | before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a switch to remote | ||||||
5 | learning, the district had already obtained a grant from Sprint | ||||||
6 | to make sure that students had internet connections; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Helton coached youth sports and | ||||||
8 | served as the president of the Rotary Club in Villa Park and | ||||||
9 | Lombard; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Helton was known as a leader, a | ||||||
11 | collaborator, a visionary, and an educator; his legacy will | ||||||
12 | live on within DuPage District 88; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Helton was a father to three sons; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
17 | we mourn the passing of Scott J. Helton, Ed.D., and extend our | ||||||
18 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
19 | and loved him; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Superintendent Helton as an |
