HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Timothy
4Leon "Murph" Murphy of West Frankfort, who passed away on
5December 23, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Tim Murphy was born to Leon "PeeWee" and Jean
7(Rankin) Murphy on July 31, 1948; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tim Murphy was an amazing art teacher, volleyball
9coach, and teen town sponsor; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Tim Murphy was most known as the beloved founder
11of Candy Cane Lane, which he began more than 30 years ago; he
12delighted spectators from West Frankfort and all of Southern
13Illinois with his Christmas decorations and illuminations; his
14efforts were recognized when the national television program
15The Great Christmas Light Fight featured Candy Cane Lane in
162018; and
 
17    WHEREAS, After retiring from teaching and coaching, Tim
18Murphy loved working in his tropical oasis backyard and his
19beautiful garden; he made amazing stages for homecoming courts,
20proms, and graduations; he enjoyed attending Redbird sporting
21activities and eating out; he loved Disney and Coca-Cola, which

1were reflected in all of his paintings; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Tim Murphy was a kind, loving, and generous man;
3he was known for always putting 110% effort into everything he
4did and making lasting impressions on the hearts of many; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tim Murphy was preceded in death by his parents
6and his half brother, Bill Murphy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Tim Murphy is survived by his sister, Marilyn
8Murphy; his niece, Michelle (Nate) Shaffer; his aunt, Ramona
9(Charles) Anderson; his great-nephew and nieces, Evan, Ella,
10and Emme; his special friends, Keith Griffith, Cam Brown, Iris
11and Bobby Kohzadi, and Laela, Layton, and Hailey; and his many
12dear friends and cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the passing of Timothy Leon "Murph" Murphy and extend
16our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
17knew and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we celebrate the life and accomplishments of
19Tim Murphy, as well as the positive contributions he made to
20Southern Illinois and the community of West Frankfort; and be
