2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Charlotte M. (Ryan) Ten | ||||||
4 | Bruin on the occasion of her 100th birthday on October 24, | ||||||
5 | 1920; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin was born on October 24, 1920, | ||||||
7 | the fourth of eight children in her family; she was always | ||||||
8 | active and determined from a very young age; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin attended St. Philomena High | ||||||
10 | School; in her mid-teens, while both a student and helping to | ||||||
11 | care for her younger siblings, she got a job at a bakery to | ||||||
12 | assist with the family's expenses; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin married Ralph Ten Bruin on May | ||||||
14 | 24, 1941; they were married for 21 years, and he preceded her | ||||||
15 | in death in 1962, due to an automobile accident; they had two | ||||||
16 | children together, Wayne and Dean; Wayne, born in 1946, is now | ||||||
17 | 74 years old; Dean, born in 1948, is now 72 years old; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin worked at Echo Products during | ||||||
19 | World War II, where she helped to manufacture munitions for the | ||||||
20 | war effort; and

1 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin subsequently held many roles; | ||||||
2 | she managed apartment buildings; she ran a bed and breakfast in | ||||||
3 | Colorado; after returning to the Midwest, she worked in | ||||||
4 | manufacturing and as a nursing assistant in a nursing home; she | ||||||
5 | held numerous retail positions; lastly, she worked as a child | ||||||
6 | caregiver in Belvidere; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin lived a full, independent life | ||||||
8 | in her Belvidere home, where she tended her flowers, cut the | ||||||
9 | grass, and took care of herself and her home until a fall | ||||||
10 | caused her to lose those abilities last year; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin moved into a nursing home in | ||||||
12 | Belvidere on September 4, 2019; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin has always been dedicated to | ||||||
14 | her family and friends and has always worked hard to lead a | ||||||
15 | successful life; she remains a loving and determined woman to | ||||||
16 | this day; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin's children and grandchildren | ||||||
18 | planned to hold a party to celebrate her 100 years on October | ||||||
19 | 24, 2020, which did not happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic; | ||||||
20 | instead, her family held a through-the-window celebration, | ||||||
21 | which made her happy; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
2 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we congratulate Charlotte M. Ten Bruin on the occasion of her | ||||||
4 | 100th birthday, and we wish her many happy and healthy years to | ||||||
5 | come; and be it further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Charlotte Ten Bruin as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
8 | and respect.
