HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Charlotte M. (Ryan) Ten
4Bruin on the occasion of her 100th birthday on October 24,
51920; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin was born on October 24, 1920,
7the fourth of eight children in her family; she was always
8active and determined from a very young age; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin attended St. Philomena High
10School; in her mid-teens, while both a student and helping to
11care for her younger siblings, she got a job at a bakery to
12assist with the family's expenses; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin married Ralph Ten Bruin on May
1424, 1941; they were married for 21 years, and he preceded her
15in death in 1962, due to an automobile accident; they had two
16children together, Wayne and Dean; Wayne, born in 1946, is now
1774 years old; Dean, born in 1948, is now 72 years old; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin worked at Echo Products during
19World War II, where she helped to manufacture munitions for the
20war effort; and

1    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin subsequently held many roles;
2she managed apartment buildings; she ran a bed and breakfast in
3Colorado; after returning to the Midwest, she worked in
4manufacturing and as a nursing assistant in a nursing home; she
5held numerous retail positions; lastly, she worked as a child
6caregiver in Belvidere; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin lived a full, independent life
8in her Belvidere home, where she tended her flowers, cut the
9grass, and took care of herself and her home until a fall
10caused her to lose those abilities last year; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin moved into a nursing home in
12Belvidere on September 4, 2019; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin has always been dedicated to
14her family and friends and has always worked hard to lead a
15successful life; she remains a loving and determined woman to
16this day; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Charlotte Ten Bruin's children and grandchildren
18planned to hold a party to celebrate her 100 years on October
1924, 2020, which did not happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic;
20instead, her family held a through-the-window celebration,
21which made her happy; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we congratulate Charlotte M. Ten Bruin on the occasion of her
4100th birthday, and we wish her many happy and healthy years to
5come; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Charlotte Ten Bruin as an expression of our esteem
8and respect.
