2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ida Grace |
4 | | Dotson of Chicago, who passed away on October 6, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ida Dotson was born to the late Percy and Bessie |
6 | | Carter in Russellville, Alabama on January 30, 1924; she was |
7 | | the youngest of six children, all of whom have preceded her in |
8 | | death; she moved from Alabama to Gary, Indiana at an early age |
9 | | and attended Froebel School; in 1949, she married her lifelong |
10 | | partner Leroy Dotson; they were together until his death in |
11 | | 2011; and

12 | | WHEREAS, Upon moving to Chicago, Ida Dotson worked for |
13 | | several years at Western Electric, Ritholds Glasses, and |
14 | | Illinois Bell before becoming a full-time homemaker; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Ida Dotson committed to her faith at an early age; |
16 | | she joined Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church under the |
17 | | pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Louis Boddie, where |
18 | | she sang in the choir and was a member of the Beacon light |
19 | | club; after the death of Reverend Boddie, she and several of |
20 | | her friends started a weekly bible study in her home that was |
21 | | known as the Universal Prayer Band; she then began attending |
22 | | the Bright Star Church of God in Christ; there, she served as a |
