HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Boyd A. 
4McCracken for receiving the 2020 Rural Physician of Excellence 
5Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Growing up in Greenville with uncles and a 
10grandfather who were dentists and a father who was a family 
11practice physician, Dr. McCracken saw firsthand the 
12significant impact medical providers can make in the well-being 
13of a rural community; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. McCracken graduated from Millikin University 
15in 1969 and stayed at the university to serve as director of 
16Millikin's biology laboratories through 1970; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. McCracken graduated from the Chicago Medical 
18School in 1974 and completed his family practice residency at 
19Southern Illinois University School of Medicine-affiliated 
20hospitals in Springfield in 1977; and

1    WHEREAS, In 1977, Dr. McCracken returned to his roots and 
2joined Five Provider Family Practice in Greenville; he was 
3granted privileges at Utlaut Memorial Hospital, which later 
4became HSHS Holy Family Hospital; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. McCracken was a medical 
6jack-of-all-trades and Renaissance man to his community; he 
7delivered babies, assisted in surgeries, and worked as an 
8emergency room physician, all while serving as  president of the 
9medical staff, serving on numerous state and local boards, and 
10attending to the regular day-to-day care he provided pediatric 
11through geriatric patients in his office practice; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. McCracken selflessly served as a mentor to 
13many new physicians and nurse practitioners offering them 
14support and compassion, which guided the way they would serve 
15their patients throughout their careers; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, When not practicing medicine, Dr. McCracken is a 
17distinguished dessert connoisseur, well known for his 
18exquisite taste in Snickers; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
20HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
21we congratulate Dr. Boyd A. McCracken for receiving the 2020 
22Rural Physician of Excellence Award and commend him for his

1compassion and dedication to his patients and for filling such 
2a tremendous void in rural medicine over the past 43 years in 
3Bond County; and be it further
  
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
5presented to Dr. McCracken as a symbol of our respect and 
6esteem.
