2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to commend Mayor William D. "Bill" McLeod |
4 | | for his 40 years of public service to the Village of Hoffman |
5 | | Estates; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod was first elected mayor of the |
7 | | Village of Hoffman Estates in April 2001, after serving as |
8 | | acting mayor since September 2000; he was reelected in April |
9 | | 2005, April 2009, April 2013, and April 2017; previously, he |
10 | | served as village trustee from September 1980 to April 2001; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mayor McLeod has dedicated |
13 | | himself to the growth and sustainability of Hoffman Estates in |
14 | | the areas of economic development and business retention, |
15 | | housing, infrastructure, and transportation; he has also |
16 | | prioritized intergovernmental relationships and is active on |
17 | | local, regional, and state committees to ensure residents and |
18 | | business owners receive the best representation; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod successfully advocated for the |
20 | | creation of an Economic Development Committee and was |
21 | | instrumental in the creation of the Hoffman Estates Historical |
22 | | Museum; he helped spearhead and guide the development of the |
|

1 | | highly visible Barrington Interchange; in 2018 and 2019, he |
2 | | worked with the Hoffman Estates Board and Village staff to |
3 | | secure a multi-million dollar deal with Somerset Development to |
4 | | convert the former AT&T campus into a thriving "metroburb", |
5 | | which will create an exciting, walkable downtown-style |
6 | | centerpiece for Hoffman Estates and will include 1.2 million |
7 | | square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of restaurant |
8 | | and retail space, and 60,000 square feet of conference |
9 | | facilities, storage, and amenities; he is working for the |
10 | | further redevelopment of the Village Green as part of the |
11 | | Hoffman Estates entertainment district; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is a long-standing supporter of the |
13 | | environment; he is one of 1,000 U.S. Mayors to sign The U.S. |
14 | | Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement; he is |
15 | | working for village sustainability and promoting wind and solar |
16 | | projects in Hoffman Estates; he is also working on bike paths, |
17 | | both on-street and designated lanes, as a priority project; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has served as a representative of |
19 | | Hoffman Estates in a number of organizations, including the |
20 | | Schaumburg Regional Air Park Board, the Regional Cable Group, |
21 | | WINGS, the Children's Advocacy Center, and the Cook County |
22 | | Suburban PACE Board; he represents Hoffman Estates at the |
23 | | Northwest Municipal Conference, where he previously served as |
24 | | president and chair of its Economic Development Committee, |

1 | | co-chair of the Legislative Committee, and chair of the |
2 | | Transportation Committee; he serves as a member of the |
3 | | Transportation Steering Committee and the Communications |
4 | | Committee with the U.S. Conference of Mayors; he serves as a |
5 | | director of the Joint Action Water Agency and is a former |
6 | | director of the Greater Woodfield Convention and Visitors |
7 | | Bureau; and

8 | | WHEREAS, Prior to serving as mayor, Mayor McLeod was a |
9 | | small business owner for 35 years, served as a legislative |
10 | | assistant to an Illinois State Representative for 4 years, |
11 | | served as a board member of the Greater Chicagoland Parents of |
12 | | the Hearing Impaired, and was president of the |
13 | | Castleford/Hearthstone Homeowners Association; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod enjoys reading, walking, history, |
15 | | and spending time with his family; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is married to Joane; together, they |
17 | | have eight children and 12 grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
19 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
20 | | we commend Mayor William D. "Bill" McLeod on his 40 years of |
21 | | public service to the Village of Hoffman Estates, and we |
22 | | recognize his commitment to the community and wish him |
