2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Fred Moyers of Mounds, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | August 13, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Fred Moyers was born to Thomas Oren and Lena Irena | ||||||
6 | (Hayden) Moyers in Mound City on September 20, 1923; he married | ||||||
7 | Helen Tally on February 6, 1943; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Fred Moyers was inducted into the Army on March 2, | ||||||
9 | 1943; he was trained as a solider and then as an engineer and a | ||||||
10 | top turret gunner on a B-26 Air Force bomber; in 1944, he | ||||||
11 | joined the 9th Air Force 394 Bomb Group, 587 Bomb Squadron in | ||||||
12 | England to prepare for the Normandy Invasion;
on D-Day, he and | ||||||
13 | his group first bombed gun positions at Cherbourg and then | ||||||
14 | struck communications, fuel supplies, and strong points in | ||||||
15 | support of the Normandy Campaign;
he took part in the Battle of | ||||||
16 | the Bulge in December 1944 through January 1945; he flew over | ||||||
17 | enemy Germany for eight months and was shot down on his 45th | ||||||
18 | mission; he subsequently lived with the Germans for three | ||||||
19 | months; for his service, he was awarded the European African | ||||||
20 | Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, two | ||||||
21 | overseas service bars, an air medal, and six oak leaf clusters; | ||||||
22 | he was honorably discharged from the service on September 6, | ||||||
23 | 1945; and |

1 | WHEREAS, After his service, Fred became a certified | ||||||
2 | entomologist; he worked for Union Carbide for 17 years and was | ||||||
3 | the owner and operator of Moyers Termite Control;
he was also a | ||||||
4 | licensed real estate agent in Illinois and Missouri and served | ||||||
5 | as Pulaski County Circuit Clerk for 25 years until his | ||||||
6 | retirement; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Fred Moyers served as a board member at the Mounds | ||||||
8 | First United Methodist Church; he was also a lifetime member of | ||||||
9 | over 75 years at the VFW in Mounds; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Fred Moyers always loved learning about new | ||||||
11 | things; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Fred Moyers was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
13 | and his sister, Gladys Louise Smith; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Fred Moyers is survived by his wife, Helen; his | ||||||
15 | daughter, Emily Jiran; his son, Brian (Ronna) Moyers; his | ||||||
16 | granddaughters, Jaymie Nunnery, Racheal Robison, and Sarah | ||||||
17 | McLemore; his grandson, Christian Howell; his | ||||||
18 | great-grandchildren, Brian Nunnery, Eli Nunnery, Jack | ||||||
19 | McLemore, Luke McLemore, Andrew McLemore, Kate McLemore, and | ||||||
20 | Ellie Howell; his many nieces and nephews; and his other | ||||||
21 | relatives; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
2 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we mourn the passing of Fred Moyers and extend our sincere | ||||||
4 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
5 | him; and be it further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Fred Moyers as an expression of
our | ||||||
8 | deepest sympathy.
