2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James | ||||||
4 | "Jim" Addington of Westmont, who passed away on July 18, 2020; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington was a proud resident of the Village | ||||||
7 | of Westmont for over 50 years; he and his wife Cathy were | ||||||
8 | heavily involved in their local community, leaving Westmont all | ||||||
9 | the better for their efforts; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington took on an incredible number of | ||||||
11 | civic roles; he was a member of the Lions Club, where he served | ||||||
12 | for many years as its president and a term as district | ||||||
13 | governor; he made every effort to contribute to the success of | ||||||
14 | future students with Lions Club scholarships and oversaw the | ||||||
15 | dedication of a Lions Park in Westmont; he volunteered with | ||||||
16 | Habitat for Humanity, including as a local board member for 10 | ||||||
17 | years; he was also involved with the Knights of Columbus and | ||||||
18 | the Westmont Park District; he organized events that brought | ||||||
19 | the Westmont community together across decades, including the | ||||||
20 | Taste of Westmont, Red White and BBQ, Pow Wow Days, and Santa | ||||||
21 | Claus for Holly Days; his involvement with local Westmont | ||||||
22 | government included serving as co-chair of the Economic | ||||||
23 | Development Commission and as chair of the Community |

1 | Development Committee; he served on the Police Pension Board | ||||||
2 | and the Police & Fire Commission and as village trustee and | ||||||
3 | mayor; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington served as a passionate advocate for | ||||||
5 | local parks, including securing legislation to improve | ||||||
6 | nighttime safety; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington left his mark on Westmont's downtown | ||||||
8 | core, shepherding the new village hall, Westmont Centre, the | ||||||
9 | downtown Westmont Centre Plaza and Fountain, the downtown | ||||||
10 | streetscape and lamps, and the creation of Westmont Main | ||||||
11 | Street; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington left his mark on Westmont's | ||||||
13 | character, leading by example and dedicating his life not to | ||||||
14 | things but to people and community service, which has resulted | ||||||
15 | in a significant benefit for the entire Westmont community and | ||||||
16 | to those who visited and received a warm Westmont welcome from | ||||||
17 | him; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington served as a friend and mentor to | ||||||
19 | thousands of community leaders over the years and was always | ||||||
20 | there to cheer them on to success, often to the same level of | ||||||
21 | zest and enthusiasm he showed for the Westmont High School boys | ||||||
22 | basketball team; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington's unwavering dedication to his | ||||||
2 | community and to duty was confirmed by his attendance at a | ||||||
3 | village trustee meeting from his hospital room shortly before | ||||||
4 | his passing; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jim Addington was devoted to and beloved by his | ||||||
6 | family, including his son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Genie, his | ||||||
7 | daughter Lisa and son-in-law Brian, and his grandchildren, | ||||||
8 | Samantha, Chloe, Kristen, and Carolyn, who will keep his zest | ||||||
9 | for life and his love for them forever in their hearts; | ||||||
10 | therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we mourn the passing of James "Jim" Addington, a man who | ||||||
14 | represented the best of Westmont and the people of Illinois, | ||||||
15 | and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, | ||||||
16 | and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Jim Addington as an expression of | ||||||
19 | our deepest respect and sympathy.
