HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Wendell
4Allen Jackson Sr. of Chicago, who passed away on July 25, 2020;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson was born to Eula Mae and Lawrence
7Robert Jackson in 1938; he studied at Tilden Technical High
8School, Loop College (Harold Washington College), Chicago
9State University, and Roosevelt University, where he earned a
10Bachelor of Arts in Social Work; he married civil rights
11activist Ruby Jackson in the late 1960s; he later married
12Chicago artist and educator Eleanor Powell Jackson; he was a
13longtime resident of the Hyde Park neighborhood; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson retired as a child specialist for
15the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson was a legendary actor, orator, and
17singer; he was loved by scholars and entertainers across
18genres; he recently published a volume of original poetry
19entitled Poems of My Life; he also recently wrote and sang the
20new CD, Slowbreakers, and narrated the CD, the Paul Robeson
21Story; and

1    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson performed for the opening of the
2Rald Institute's Art Exhibition Fundraiser at the Chicago
3Theological Seminary on February 18, 2020; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson was a delightful talent with a
5strong presence; he was a generous, loving friend; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson was a faithful church servant and
7served first at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Lilydale
8Missionary Baptist, where his dad was the founder; he then
9served many years at Macedonia Tabernacle M.B. Church under his
10brother; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson was preceded in death by his first
12wife, Ruby; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Wendell Jackson is survived by his children, Sauda
14Azizza Jackson, Wendell Jackson Jr., Lawrence Jackson, and Emon
15Samarra; his sisters, Dorothy Smith, Loretta Jackson, Myrna
16McWhite, Arzetta Askew, and Dr. Uletta Butler; and his
17brothers, Robert Jackson Sr., Rev. Maurice Jackson, William
18Jackson Sr., and Rev. Dr. Fredrick G. Jackson Sr.; therefore,
19be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Wendell Allen Jackson Sr. and extend
2our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
3knew and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Wendell Jackson as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
