2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Michael |
4 | | R. "Mike" Manno of Lansing, who passed away on June 21, 2020; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno was born on April 21, 1952; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno served as a police officer for the city |
8 | | of Lansing from 1978 until his retirement in 2002; he continued |
9 | | to teach anti-gang and safety programs to the youth of Lansing |
10 | | while driving his G.R.E.A.T. van around town; in 2001, he was |
11 | | recognized for his service and named the Midwest G.R.E.A.T. |
12 | | Officer of the Year by the Department of Justice; during his |
13 | | tenure with the department, he was a member of the police and |
14 | | fire safety team (Big Bird) and trained as a hostage |
15 | | negotiator; he initiated the Senior Citizen Academy and was |
16 | | involved with the D.A.R.E. program; he loved his assignment as |
17 | | a motorcycle officer and worked as a community liaison for the |
18 | | latter half of his career; he was affectionately known as |
19 | | "Officer Friendly"; serving and protecting others was his |
20 | | passion; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno became a trustee for the Village of |
22 | | Lansing in 2013; a Lansing resident for almost 60 years, he |

1 | | worked every day to make the city a better place; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno worked as a security guard at Community |
3 | | Hospital in Munster, Indiana for the last five years and was |
4 | | planning on retiring in June; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno served on the board of School District |
6 | | 171 and on the board of directors for the LACE organization; he |
7 | | was a founding member of the Lansing Volunteer Recognition |
8 | | Committee and presided over the T.F.S Booster Club and the |
9 | | Lansing Lions Football organization; he coached for over 25 |
10 | | years with the Lansing Old Timers girls softball and volleyball |
11 | | leagues and was chairman of the Marian Catholic fundraising |
12 | | committee; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno was the first male to win the |
14 | | prestigious Athena Award in 2018; the award, presented by the |
15 | | Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, honors women and men who |
16 | | strive towards the highest levels of professional |
17 | | accomplishment, who excel in their chosen field, who have |
18 | | devoted time and energy to their community, and who pave paths |
19 | | for women; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno was a devoted husband, father, |
21 | | grandfather, and uncle; he loved nothing more than being with |
22 | | his family, making them laugh and cheering them on in all |

1 | | aspects of their lives; his lengthy stories, exuberant displays |
2 | | of team spirit, and vibrant personality made him the life of |
3 | | the party; he was a man of true loyalty, passion, and integrity |
4 | | and worked tirelessly as a police officer; he cared deeply for |
5 | | his loved ones and devoted countless hours in service to his |
6 | | community; and

7 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno was preceded in death by his mother, |
8 | | Ellen (Edward "Mac") McLaughlin; his brother, Richard "Richie" |
9 | | Manno; his father, Frank Manno; and his stepfather, Michael |
10 | | Nudo; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Mike Manno is survived by his wife of 45 years, |
12 | | Kathleen (Keller); his daughters, Dana (Craig) Parkhill, Renee |
13 | | Manno, and Nikki Manno (Cole Wagner); his granddaughter, Harper |
14 | | Parkhill; his sister, Sue Wayne; his mother-in-law, Marie |
15 | | (Robert) Keller; his sister-in-law, Rita (Jay) Vanderby; his |
16 | | brother-in-law, Timothy Keller; his nieces, Dawn (Greg) |
17 | | Pickar, Miranda Manno, Dakota Pickar, Allison Vanderby (Mike |
18 | | VanMilligan), and Kristin Vanderby (Nick Blannin); and his |
19 | | great-nephews, Ambrose and Keller Blannin; therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
21 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 | | we mourn the passing of Michael R. "Mike" Manno and extend our |
23 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
