2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Margaret |
4 | | P. "Peg" Price of Naperville, who passed away on April 26, 2020 |
5 | | at the age of 87; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on |
7 | | April 8, 1933; she married her high school sweetheart Chuck |
8 | | Price in 1953, and together they raised two sons, Steven and |
9 | | Timothy; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price and her family moved to Naperville in |
11 | | 1967 and decided they would raise their family there; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price quickly became active in her community |
13 | | and served on several appointed committees and commissions |
14 | | before being elected to public office; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price served on the Naperville City Council |
16 | | and was then elected as the City of Naperville's first female |
17 | | mayor, a post she held from 1983 to 1991; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, While serving as mayor, Peg Price was credited |
19 | | with starting the Naperville "State of the City Address" and |
20 | | for beginning the planning for the current Naperville Municipal |

1 | | Center and the creation of Naperville's water utility; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, During Peg Price's time as mayor, Naperville built |
3 | | a fire station, relocated the Nichols Library, and built the |
4 | | city's first parking deck on Chicago Avenue; she later helped |
5 | | assemble a committee to support construction of the outdoor |
6 | | concert center in Central Park; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, In addition to holding elected positions, Peg |
8 | | Price served as a member of the Northeastern Illinois Planning |
9 | | Commission for eight years and as part of the DuPage Mayors and |
10 | | Managers Conference for three years; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price was also the first woman to regularly |
12 | | attend meetings and to join the Rotary Club of Naperville when |
13 | | the organization welcomed women as members in 1987; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price's community involvement was also |
15 | | evident through her work with the Maplebrook II Home Owner's |
16 | | Association, the Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation, the |
17 | | League of Women Voters, the Naperville Riverwalk Commission, |
18 | | various political campaigns, Loaves & Fishes at St. Raphael's, |
19 | | and several charity golf outings and other fundraisers; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price's devotion to volunteerism helped |
21 | | cultivate many other community assets, including the |
|

1 | | development of the Naperville Riverwalk for the city's |
2 | | sesquicentennial anniversary; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, In 2005, the Daily Herald named Peg Price to their |
4 | | list of Naperville's 25 most influential people; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price was a valued role model for many and had |
6 | | a positive impact on countless individuals throughout her adult |
7 | | life; she lived according to the Rotary motto of "Service Above |
8 | | Self"; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Peg Price's children, her grandchildren, and all |
10 | | who knew her can be proud of her legacy and the lasting impact |
11 | | she had on the City of Naperville, DuPage County, and the State |
12 | | of Illinois; therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
14 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
15 | | we mourn the passing of Margaret P. "Peg" Price and extend our |
16 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew |
17 | | and loved her; and be it further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Peg Price as an expression of our |
20 | | appreciation of her service to the people of Naperville and as |
21 | | an expression of our deepest sympathy.
