HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Kirstin Grzonka on
4earning the Summit Award as a member of BSA Venturing Crew l in
5the Pathway to Adventure Council; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Venturing Scouts is an inclusive program through
7the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for males and females aged 14
8to 20, or those who are aged 13 and have completed the 8th
9grade; the program is operated through Venturing Crews, units
10of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan
11activities and events for youth; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Summit Award represents the Venturing Scouts'
13highest honor; to achieve this ultimate recognition, a scout
14must serve the crew as a leader, both formally and informally,
15and be a mentor to others; in addition, the scout must
16strengthen their community by designing and leading a service
17project to benefit others; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Starting last year, Kirstin Grzonka planned, led,
19and executed a Summit Award Service Project to assist the
20Heartland Animal Shelter, which had a desperate need for
21supplies and food; with the support of her crew, she was able
22to collect a significant volume of items for the shelter; and

1    WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka has displayed enviable leadership
2skills and has steadily advanced over the years; she served as
3Crew Quartermaster for the last 2 years and was responsible for
4all of the unit's equipment; she earned the Ranger Award, which
5is the highest award for outdoor skills in scouting; she was
6elected president by her crew at the end of 2019; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka has also been nationally
8recognized; she was elected to join the Order of the Arrow, the
9National Honor Society of the BSA, which opened its elections
10to female scouts for the first time in its 104-year history in
112019; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka is also a member of the Girl
13Scouts of America and a recipient of the Gold Award, the
14highest award in Girl Scouts; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka will graduate this spring from
16Lake Zurich High School in Lake Zurich, where she was a member
17of the Lake Zurich Girls Bowling Team; she will be attending
18Northern Illinois University this fall to study biology with
19the intention of becoming a veterinarian; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate Kirstin Grzonka on earning the Summit Award,
2and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it

4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
