HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maggie
4Kelly of Chicago, who passed away on November 20, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maggie Kelly was born in Uniontown, Alabama to Joe
6Bennett and Shavannah Sander Bennett on February 12, 1922; she
7was the eighth of 12 children; she later moved to Chicago; she
8married SJ Kelly in 1943; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Maggie Kelly worked at Ann Sather Restaurant from
101959 until her retirement; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Maggie Kelly committed to her faith at an early
12age and was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in
13Uniontown, Alabama; she was a founding member of Mt. Hope
14Missionary Baptist Church in 1945; she was a member of Sunrise
15Baptist Church in Chicago; she served as a missionary and a
16Sunday school teacher; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Maggie Kelly's passion was feeding the elderly and
18homeless; she was known as a mentor; she enjoyed traveling to
19Europe and Jerusalem with the family of Alderman Tom Tunney;

1    WHEREAS, Maggie Kelly was preceded in death by her husband,
2SJ Kelly; her parents; her siblings; and her pastors, Reverend
3W.M. Lambert, Reverend D.H. Moore, and Reverend J. Rawls; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Maggie Kelly is survived by her godson, Pastor
5J.E. Storey; her spiritual daughter, Lady Di Storey; her
6nieces, Robyn Bennett, Mohini Cox, Latisha Bennett-Williams,
7and Mary Bennett-Larocque; her nephew, James Bennett; her
8pastor emeritus, Reverend G. Hills; and her pastor, Reverend A.
9Martin; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we mourn the passing of Maggie Kelly and extend our sincere
13condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Maggie Kelly as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
