2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Francis P. "Frank" |
4 | | Rossiter Jr., M.D. of Savannah, Georgia on being inducted into |
5 | | the Irish America Hall of Fame in New Ross, County Wexford, |
6 | | Ireland; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter is one of only 59 people to be |
8 | | inducted since the Irish America Hall of Fame was founded by |
9 | | Irish America Magazine in 2010; the honor recognizes |
10 | | individuals in the Irish American community who have made an |
11 | | impact on the Irish in America and who have bridged the gap |
12 | | between the U.S. and Ireland; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter's great-grandparents, Patrick |
14 | | Rossiter and Anne Corrigan, were Irish emigrants from County |
15 | | Wexford; he was born to the late, former Savannah Mayor Pro-Tem |
16 | | Frank P. and Inez Coleman Rossiter; he is a native of Savannah; |
17 | | he attended Benedictine Military School, Armstrong College, |
18 | | the University of Georgia, and the Medical College of Georgia; |
19 | | and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to |
21 | | 1974, rising from the rank of second lieutenant to lieutenant |
22 | | colonel; during this time, he was appointed chief of pediatric |
|

1 | | services at Fort Ord on Monterey Bay, California, before |
2 | | returning to Savannah; he then served 20 years in the Georgia |
3 | | Army National Guard, spending the last 15 years as a colonel; |
4 | | he was honored with the rank of brigadier general when he |
5 | | retired in 2000; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, During his medical career, Dr. Rossiter served in |
7 | | various roles in several healthcare systems located in Georgia, |
8 | | including St. Joseph's/Candler, Memorial Health, and Georgia |
9 | | Regional Hospital; he also served on the Backus Children's |
10 | | Hospital Advisory Board, the Ethics Committee, the Medical |
11 | | Advisory Committee as chairman, and the Department of |
12 | | Pediatrics as chairman; he retired from his medical practice in |
13 | | June 2003; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Rossiter was involved in a |
15 | | number of organizations and events, including the Chatham |
16 | | Artillery Association as president, the Hibernian Society, and |
17 | | the Armstrong Foundation Board of Directors; he was the Grand |
18 | | Marshal of the 2008 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah, |
19 | | following in the footsteps of his father who was Grand Marshal |
20 | | in 1972; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Rossiter serves on the Mercer |
22 | | University School of Medicine-Savannah Board of Governors, the |
23 | | Chatham County Hospital Authority, the Memorial Health |

1 | | University Board of Directors, the Diocese of Savannah Finance |
2 | | Council, and the Rourke Foundation as chairman; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter is married to Glenda Nelson, and they |
4 | | have been married for 48 years; they have three children and |
5 | | five grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
7 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
8 | | we congratulate Francis P. "Frank" Rossiter Jr., M.D. of |
9 | | Savannah, Georgia on being inducted into the Irish America Hall |
10 | | of Fame in New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland; and be it further

11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to Dr. Rossiter Jr. as an expression of our esteem |
13 | | and respect.
