2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to commend Shirley Ann (Kramer) Hall for |
4 | | her 79 years as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall was born in Centralia to Paul and |
6 | | Helen Kramer on September 8, 1932; she is one of eight |
7 | | children; she is the widow of LTC Ronald J. Hall, a Korean War |
8 | | veteran; they have one son, Bruce Alan (Kathy) Hall, and two |
9 | | grandsons, Eric Lawrence Hall and Jason Lawrence Hall; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall joined the George M. Nelms Post 446 |
11 | | of the American Legion Auxiliary in Centralia at the age of |
12 | | nine in September 1941; she was eligible to join the American |
13 | | Legion Auxiliary through her father's service in the U.S. Army; |
14 | | and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall served as president of the Salem Unit |
16 | | 128, 23rd District, 5th Division of the American Legion |
17 | | Auxiliary from 1957 to 1958 and 1964 to 1965, in addition to |
18 | | four terms while her late husband served as Post 128 Commander |
19 | | from 1994 to 1998, and currently serves as the Salem Auxiliary |
20 | | Historian; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall served as president of the Junior |
|

1 | | Auxiliary, where her mother was also a member; she also served |
2 | | on the Illinois Veterans Commission as an itinerant secretary |
3 | | in the 1960s; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall has been involved in a number of |
5 | | organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) |
6 | | Auxiliary, the Eight & Forty, The Disabled American Veterans |
7 | | (DAV) where she is a lifetime member, the Egyptian Past |
8 | | Presidents Club, and the Centralia Post 2055 of the Veterans of |
9 | | Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary as a past president; she also |
10 | | supports the American Legion Child Welfare Fund; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall has joined the local American Legion |
12 | | Auxiliary wherever she has lived over the years, including |
13 | | serving as the Quincy Hospital Representative for the American |
14 | | Legion Auxiliary; she has also participated in many Veterans |
15 | | Day and Memorial Day programs; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Some of Shirley Hall's most memorable experiences |
17 | | include making tray favors for veterans as a Junior Auxiliary |
18 | | member, distributing poppies every year, and learning how to |
19 | | conduct a meeting; one of her fondest memories was being |
20 | | installed as Auxiliary Unit President when her son presented |
21 | | her with a bouquet of red roses; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Shirley Hall continues her service to the American |

1 | | Legion Auxiliary as a longtime member of the Luther B. Easley |
2 | | Post 128 in Salem; she celebrates 79 years as an active |
3 | | continuous American Legion Auxiliary member in 2020, making her |
4 | | the longest serving Auxiliary member in Illinois history and |
5 | | the second longest serving in the United States; therefore, be |
6 | | it
|
7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
8 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
9 | | we commend Shirley Ann Hall on her drive, conviction, and |
10 | | life-long commitment to support our military veterans as a |
11 | | member of the American Legion Auxiliary for the past 79 years |
12 | | and are proud of her efforts to make a difference in her |
13 | | community; and be it further

14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
15 | | presented to Shirley Hall as a symbol of our respect and |
16 | | esteem.
