HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Carl
4Edward Mescher of Massac County, who passed away on January 15,
52020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher was born to Herman and Clara
7(Moller) Mescher in Metropolis on August 12, 1920; he dedicated
8his life to the service of Illinoisans within Massac County;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher was a Navy veteran of World
11War II; he served on the USS Pennsylvania during the attack on
12Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; he heroically contained
13dangerous and destructive fires throughout the bombing raids
14that day; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher was a radioman in the OS2U3
16Kingfisher seaplane and was awarded the Air Medal for
17courageous action in the Pacific theater at Makin, Kwajalein,
18and Eniwetok Atolla; the commendation recognized his skillful
19performance of duty in establishing and maintaining excellent
20communications between his plane and parent ship while braving
21heavy antiaircraft fire and extremely hazardous flying
22conditions; and

1    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher finished his military service
2testing radio navigation equipment in PBY Catalina seaplanes at
3Banana River Naval Station where he rose to the rank of Chief
4Petty Officer; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Following his illustrious military career from
61940 to 1946, Carl Edward Mescher operated Soil Services, a
7local fertilizer store, until his retirement in 1982; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher continued to farm and raise
9cattle until his health no longer allowed it; he was a member
10of St. John's Church and the American Legion Post 306; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher was preceded in death by his
12parents, Herman and Clara (Moller) Mescher; and his five
13brothers, Omer, Amos, Loyd, Troy, and Otis Mescher; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Carl Edward Mescher is survived by his nieces, his
15nephews, his extended relatives, and his friends; therefore, be
16it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn the passing of Carl Edward Mescher and extend our
20sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Carl Edward Mescher as an expression
