| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the deaths of Frank | ||||||
| 4 | and Cinda Edwards of Springfield on January 28, 2020; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Frank and Cinda Edwards were married on January | ||||||
| 6 | 15, 1983 and had just recently celebrated their 37th | ||||||
| 7 | anniversary; they were the proud parents of their son, Alex; | ||||||
| 8 | and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Frank and Cinda spent their lives dedicated to | ||||||
| 10 | public service by serving their community and country; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Frank Edwards served in the Illinois National | ||||||
| 12 | Guard, where he earned the rank of Sergeant and developed a | ||||||
| 13 | passion and love of flying; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Upon completion of his service in the National | ||||||
| 15 | Guard, Frank joined the Springfield Fire Department and spent | ||||||
| 16 | over two decades serving the residents of Springfield; he | ||||||
| 17 | retired from the Department as Fire Chief; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Frank was elected to the Springfield City Council | ||||||
| 19 | in 2003, was re-elected in 2007, and became the interim Mayor | ||||||
| 20 | of Springfield following the death of former Mayor Tim Davlin; | ||||||

| 1 | and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards had a remarkable career of caring | ||||||
| 3 | for others as a registered nurse in Springfield; she worked on | ||||||
| 4 | the Neurological Unit at Memorial Medical Center and in the | ||||||
| 5 | Emergency Room at St. John's Hospital and was the clinical | ||||||
| 6 | director for Priority Care; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Cinda was elected to the Lincoln Land Community | ||||||
| 8 | College Board of Trustees and was a strong supporter of various | ||||||
| 9 | charitable organizations in the Springfield area, including | ||||||
| 10 | the Hoogland Center for the Arts and Big Brothers Big Sisters; | ||||||
| 11 | and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Cinda was appointed Sangamon County Coroner in | ||||||
| 13 | 2011; she was elected to a full term in 2012 and re-elected in | ||||||
| 14 | 2016; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Cinda's job as coroner was not only to investigate | ||||||
| 16 | the deaths of Sangamon residents but also to help console | ||||||
| 17 | grieving families during difficult moments, and she did so with | ||||||
| 18 | tremendous care and compassion; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Frank and Cinda Edwards loved the City of | ||||||
| 20 | Springfield and Sangamon County; they counted so many people as | ||||||
| 21 | their friends; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Their passing will leave a hole in the hearts of | ||||||
| 2 | many in the Springfield area, but their legacy will live on for | ||||||
| 3 | generations to come; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The Edwards family is also mourning the loss of | ||||||
| 5 | their loving and friendly dog Lily, who brought a smile to the | ||||||
| 6 | faces of all she encountered and died alongside Frank and | ||||||
| 7 | Cinda; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Frank and Cinda Edwards are survived by their | ||||||
| 9 | loving son, Alex; their sister, Judy Rich; and their nieces, | ||||||
| 10 | nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we mourn the passing of Frank and Cinda Edwards and extend our | ||||||
| 14 | deepest condolences to the Edwards family and to all their | ||||||
| 15 | friends in the Springfield area and the Bradenton, Florida | ||||||
| 16 | community who knew and loved them; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of Frank and Cinda Edwards as an | ||||||
| 19 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
