| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives would | ||||||
| 3 | like to congratulate Pat Devaney on his retirement from the | ||||||
| 4 | Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) and for being | ||||||
| 5 | elected Secretary Treasurer of the Illinois American | ||||||
| 6 | Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations | ||||||
| 7 | (AFL-CIO); and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Pat Devaney started his career as a firefighter in | ||||||
| 9 | the City of Champaign in 1995 and was promoted to the rank of | ||||||
| 10 | Captain in 2019; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, AFFI is the statewide professional firefighter | ||||||
| 12 | union representing over 15,000 firefighters comprised of 225 | ||||||
| 13 | affiliates throughout the state; Pat Devaney has been an active | ||||||
| 14 | member of the Champaign Firefighters AFFI Local 1260, serving | ||||||
| 15 | as treasurer, vice president, and president; he also served as | ||||||
| 16 | a trustee for the Champaign Firefighters Pension Board from | ||||||
| 17 | 1999 to 2009; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Pat Devaney served as President of AFFI from 2008 | ||||||
| 19 | to 2020 and also served as the AFFI Central District | ||||||
| 20 | Legislative Representative from 2004 to 2008; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Pat Devaney regularly lobbied the Illinois | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | General Assembly on pension and labor issues affecting | ||||||
| 2 | professional firefighters; he was heavily involved in pension | ||||||
| 3 | reform negotiations, which culminated in the combining of over | ||||||
| 4 | 650 police and fire pension funds into two statewide investment | ||||||
| 5 | funds; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Pat Devaney was elected Vice President of the | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois AFL-CIO in 2008 and was elected by the Executive Board | ||||||
| 8 | to become Secretary Treasurer in 2019; he is the first | ||||||
| 9 | firefighter in Illinois history to be elected to one of the | ||||||
| 10 | Principal Office positions within the Illinois AFL-CIO; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Pat Devaney was one of the founding members of the | ||||||
| 12 | We Are One Illinois coalition, which was formed to defend | ||||||
| 13 | attacks on public employee retirement security; therefore, be | ||||||
| 14 | it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we congratulate Pat Devaney on a lifetime of service through | ||||||
| 18 | his work as a fire fighter and with AFFI and wish him future | ||||||
| 19 | success as Secretary Treasurer of the Illinois AFL-CIO; and be | ||||||
| 20 | it further

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to Pat Devaney as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
