HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Hubert W.
4"Jess" Woodruff II of Salem, who passed away on September 14,
52019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Hubert Woodruff was born in Oneida, South Dakota
7to Constance Noste and Lewis McCabe Woodruff on July 14, 1923;
8he attended Peoria Central High School, where he met Helen
9Siepert, the woman he would eventually marry; he served in the
10U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II as a Pilot Commander of a
11B-17 Bomber, acquiring 756 hours of military flight time and
12rising to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant; after the war, he resumed
13his education, graduating from Bradley University in Peoria and
14then from the University of Illinois, where he earned a Juris
15Doctorate; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Hubert Woodruff lived in Iowa, Missouri,
17Pennsylvania, and Minnesota before settling in Illinois in
181940; he began his career as a practicing attorney in Peoria;
19he interrupted his practice in 1956 to serve as the State
20Senator for the 18th District (Peoria); he then resumed the
21practice of law as a corporate attorney with Christian
22Universal Life, which resulted in his family's relocation to
23Salem in 1963; he later opened a law office in Salem, where he

1practiced until his retirement; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Hubert Woodruff was preceded in death by his
3parents; his brothers, Vaughn N. and Maurice L. Woodruff; and
4his sister, Corrine E. Woodruff Michel; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Hubert Woodruff is survived by his wife of 75
6years, Helen S. Woodruff; his sons, Jeffrey, Bradley, Todd, and
7Gregg; his daughter, Deborah; six grandchildren; and ten
8great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Hubert W. "Jess" Woodruff II and extend
12our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
13knew and loved him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Hubert Woodruff as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
