HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize EyeCare America and its
4dedicated volunteers for 35 years of public service to the
5people of Illinois and throughout the United States; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Older individuals are particularly susceptible to
7loss of vision as a result of eye conditions such as
8age-related macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma, and
9diabetes; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Early detection and treatment for eye diseases is
11often the difference between functional vision and blindness;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 2020, EyeCare America, the public service
14program of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, celebrates 35
15years of preserving sight; and
 
16    WHEREAS, EyeCare America has helped over two million people
17across the nation with sight saving care and resources through
18the efforts of more than 5,000 volunteer ophthalmologists; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Over 30,000 Illinois citizens have been helped by
20the services offered by the 190 EyeCare America volunteer

1ophthalmologists from throughout our State; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois Society of Eye Physicians and
3Surgeons, in partnership with the American Academy of
4Ophthalmology, strongly encourages its members to volunteer
5for EyeCare America; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinois has a distinguished history of
7excellence in eye care as home to six academic institutions,
8the Loyola University Medical Center, the Northwestern
9University Feinberg School of Medicine, the Rush University
10Medical Center, the Stroger Hospital of Cook County, the
11University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at
12Chicago/Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary, which are training the
13next generation of caring eye physicians and surgeons, as well
14as providing exceptional state-of-the-art medical eye care to
15patients and developing cutting-edge research; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Illinois is the home to the Chicago
17Ophthalmological Society, established in 1893 and the oldest
18local ophthalmological society in the nation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Individuals may contact EyeCare America to
20determine if they or their loved ones are eligible for referral
21to a volunteer ophthalmologist in Illinois; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we recognize EyeCare America and its dedicated volunteers for
435 years of public service to the people of Illinois and
5throughout the United States; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to EyeCare America as a symbol of our respect and
8esteem.
