| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Adlai E. Stevenson High | ||||||
| 4 | School in Lincolnshire on being designated a 2019 National Blue | ||||||
| 5 | Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program | ||||||
| 7 | recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high | ||||||
| 8 | schools where students perform at very high levels or where | ||||||
| 9 | significant improvements are being made in student academic | ||||||
| 10 | achievement; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School previously | ||||||
| 12 | received this honor in 1986, 1990, 1997, and 2001 and is now | ||||||
| 13 | one of only six schools in the country and the only school in | ||||||
| 14 | Illinois to earn this distinction five times; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School has thrived under | ||||||
| 16 | the leadership of Superintendent Eric Twadell, Principal Troy | ||||||
| 17 | Gobble, and District 96 School Board Members Heena Agrawal, | ||||||
| 18 | Steve Frost, Gary Gorson, Sunit Jain, Terry Moons, Amy Neault, | ||||||
| 19 | and David Weisberg; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School is recognized with | ||||||
| 21 | this distinct honor because of its deep focus on social and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | emotional learning in students, a shift away from traditional | ||||||
| 2 | grading practices toward a standards-based system, and an | ||||||
| 3 | expansion of academic support services for students struggling | ||||||
| 4 | in their courses; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program also | ||||||
| 6 | recognized Adlai E. Stevenson High School's success in moving | ||||||
| 7 | to a later school start time each morning, providing more | ||||||
| 8 | fitness choices to students in physical education courses, and | ||||||
| 9 | overhauling food and drink offerings in school cafeterias to | ||||||
| 10 | reduce added sugars and simple carbohydrates; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate Adlai E. Stevenson High School on being | ||||||
| 14 | designated a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School, and we wish the | ||||||
| 15 | faculty, staff, and administration many more years of success | ||||||
| 16 | and service to the children and families of the community; and | ||||||
| 17 | be it further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Adlai E. Stevenson High School as an expression of | ||||||
| 20 | our esteem and respect.
