HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of AnnaMarie
4McCall, who passed away on October 2, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall was born in Chicago during the
6Great Depression to Milan and Anna (Kaviak) Smiljanic; she
7attended Peck Elementary School, Eli Whitney Elementary
8School, and Cameron Elementary School; during her grade school
9years, she was double-promoted three separate times; she went
10on to attend Austin High School in Chicago; she attended
11business school and married Thomas McCall, a sailor in the U.S.
12Navy who became a Chicago police officer; and
 
13    WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall worked for Time Life Magazine,
14the Bodine Electric Company, and Grey Van Lines; she returned
15to school and earned an associates degree in liberal arts from
16Wilbur Wright Junior College; she earned a Bachelor of Science
17in Education from Chicago Teachers College and became a teacher
18with the Chicago Public Schools; she was one of the original
19teachers in the Chicago Child Parent Centers, a program for
20children from preschool through third grade; and
 
21    WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall discovered she had a deep passion
22for working in early education with disadvantaged children; she

1earned two master's degrees from DePaul University, one in
2guidance and counseling and a second in special education; she
3retired after spending her entire career with the Chicago
4Public School system; and
 
5    WHEREAS, During retirement, AnnaMarie McCall enjoyed
6traveling; she embarked on several trips to England, one upon
7which she returned to the U.S. aboard the Queen Elizabeth II;
8she took numerous cruises around the U.S. and traveled to
9Egypt, where she visited the pyramids and sailed the Nile
10River; one of her most enjoyable trips involved a train journey
11starting in Chicago, traveling to the East Coast, and from
12there boarding the Queen Elizabeth II, which sailed south
13through the Panama Canal to Mexico then to the West Coast,
14before returning to Chicago aboard Amtrak; and
 
15    WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall was a member of the Maine
16Township Mainstreamers Advisory Council and the Suburban Area
17Agency on Aging; she was the advisor council secretary for the
18Des Plaines Friends of the Library and the treasurer for the
19Ladies Auxiliary of the Showmen's League of America; she was a
20Silver Representative in the National Silver Haired Congress;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall was the widow of the late Thomas
23(CPD); the beloved mother of Linda Gonzales (retired CPD); the

1grandmother of Marc Harrison, David (Alba) Gonzales, Phillip
2Gonzales, and Robin Gonzales (CPD); and the great-grandmother
3of Mariano Garcia III, Evan Gonzales, Anthony Garcia, Harper
4Gonzales, David Gonzales Jr., Jocelyn Gonzales, and Isabella
5Gonzales; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we mourn the passing of AnnaMarie McCall and extend our sincere
9condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
10her; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of AnnaMarie McCall as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
